Litters were a common mode of transport in ancient Peru. Only high-ranked persons were allowed to use them. This litter of a Moche lord is made of wood covered with gold sheet. Dangling gold discs attached to the sides of the litter sparkle in the sunlight. The lord’s pet, a pampas cat, is sitting on a cushion which is covered with finely woven textiles.
Reconstruction is based on archaeological remains and iconography.
