Larger Metallic Cthulhu Idol preview

Description

sorry for all of this text! I'm still experimenting with these metallic effects and going on about using them and thoughts on what to do next.

A preview of the first metallic idols from molds of the larger carved idols. I tried some more intentional gradients with the metallic colors since these pieces are larger than the usual miniature ones and I could apply the powder exactly where I want it. The one on the left is dark green with lighter pearl green at the tentacle tips, eyes, claws, wingtips, and tentacles in the base. The right one is gold with copper accents and base and has had a black paint wash.
I was most excited to see the green one demolded, but unfortunately I added too much black dye to the resin and it didn't all mix in which resulted in uneven soft sticky spots that are mostly dye that will remain uncured and left sticky patches inside of the mold that need a lot of cleaning to remove. : (
Preparing both of these molds and applying the different powders with small brushes to get the gradients where I wanted took about a half-hour each but I think it's worth it for what a good outcome will look like. I don't think the red/gold works well for these, it's a cool effect but the colors don't really fit (more reminiscent of a dragon). I'll be trying the green one again since aside from a mixing error, the colors are perfect. I think a green and iridescent blue gradient would also work well so that might be next to try.
For some reason the round one strikes me as something that would look better as a solid warm color like copper or gold alone or in a way that isn't so contrasting, but I'll try a green mix on it to prove myself wrong.
I think I'll pick up a vial of silver effect powder soon and try combinations with that too.

I like the green one the best, the long straight tentacles just look better (to me). Shame the black dye wash didn't work out, I think I can see some of the remaining stain on the top left image.
Are you familiar with pre-Columbian art? There's a monumental statue of Coatlicue, the Aztec goddess. Acutally, there are several different statues, but the one where her head is formed of two facing rattlesnakes is my favorite. So why am I bringing this up? Somehow these two Cthulhus remind me of the goddess, I'm not sure why. Probably because of the great detail and antique aspect of your work here.
