Coming late into school the next day, Jon was surprised when no teasing started. He shrugged it off, thinking it that everyone must be harrasing someone else. Unlucky sod, he thought grimly. Everyone avoided him but checking his clothes, there was nothing on them. Strange he thought, opening his locker door.

A yellow bit of paper fell out. He opened it, feeling the creases on it. Jon; it read. Meet me in the libary at lunch. A tiny diet coke was doodled on the edge of the paper.

Jon spent the rest of the day in a state of curiosity and confusion. Why tell someone to meet you somewhere, if all you're not going to tell them anything else. Jon decided to take his lunch into the libary. Leaning on a bookcase was Eduardo. He was staring up at the skylight, watching the leaves spin and dance on the roof.

Jon sat down, then coughed. He wasn't sure if Eduardo was the one who had sent that piece of paper, but he doubted the new boy would be there for any other reason. Jon took out his lunch; a large cheese sandwich, packet of salt and vinegar crisps, a miniture orange choclate bar and finally; a can of diet coke. The new boy lost his focus on the leaves, and glanced down at the brown haired pupil. Jon glanced up, then noticed the older boy's fixture on his can of coke.

"You can have it if you want." Eduardo glanced sharply at Jon, but a smile grew when he was given the diet coke. The youngest boy muched his sandwich as Eduardo greedily gulped down the cola.

Jon finished his lunch, just after Eduardo had reduced his intake of coke down to sips. The American was drawing random objects, his tounge sticking out in concentration. Jon started his english, working up the courage to ask Eduardo something. "Was it you who stopped the other pupils picking on me." Eduardo gave him a rabbit-in-headlights look, before giving a sharp nod. Jon breathed a sigh, and went back to his work. He wondered how Eduardo had stopped them, but decided he really didn't want to know.

Walking home, Jon was confused when someone brushed him. Glancing round at the newcomer, he saw it was his new...friend? Eduardo was grimly stalking along, feet pounding along as his face set in a scowl. Jon mused his friend would look like Snape if he gave the older boy a cloak. He smothered a smile, causing Eduardo to glance curiosly at him. The walk was shrouded in silence, but Jon found himself enjoying the other boy's company.

They parted at the crossroads near the overgrown bus station. Jon headed towards his tidy house, and Eduardo wandered down the other more distressed street. Jon allowed himself a small smile. He'd made a friend.

This is a great story. It's nice to think about how Eduardo and Jon could have possibly met. Keep it up :)
