the human signal processor by conskeptical the human signal processor by conskeptical
I've been working with automated [software] build systems quite a bit lately. Naturally, I found it instructive to apply a computing metaphor to the human condition. (our minds are just great big computers after all, oh how quaintly 20th century, oh how tediously 21st century)

So this diagram represents the human being as a signal processor. Our environment (everything outside the circle) is full of signals, some of which find their way into us (perceptions in), are processed for a while, and some other signals come back out into the environment (responses out).

I found this diagram thought provoking in these ways:
- how do we filter our perceptions and responses?
- how does the human creative process relate to this diagram?
- how much influence do we have over the (effective) internal crosswiring of our senses?
- can latching at various of the different stages help us take perceptual/creative shortcuts, and reuse results we've already come to?
- how can we farm out various of these internal human processes to machines (tools/computers etc.)
- how does this model relate to groupings of people, and can there be cross-fertilization between the two realms of individual and group signal processing?

Very insightful... and I went through that process to respond... hmm

well, it's important to remember that it's just one way of looking at it :)
i think it's important not to get too fixated on mechanistic interpretations of ourselves!

Yes - thats true, I was only joking anyway ;). If you put down every thing to mechanics, acting and reacting so as to constantly process stimuli, you loose something important.
I mean, I don't know about you, but I'm not religious, so I don't believe that God gave us this but there's obviously something more passionate about people than electronic pulses :) which I personally wouldn't ignore for the world. What do you think?
I hope my opinion makes sense, idn, I just woke up  barely know where I am right now :p

I think I agree with you :)
i would add this though: we could be electronic pulses AND passionate :) just because we can explain a few things doesn't take away the magic. We know about all the chemical elements that make up pretty much everything around us, but just because stuff's made of atoms doesn't make it or us any less amazing...

Most curious... the mysteries are in the circle.

and in where you choose to draw the circle :)
