Bi-Weekly Contests are back! Who's ready for a challenge?

We'll be kicking off with a new type of round: Illustration - Telling a story.
Create your own illustrated narrative. The theme will be "In the beginning".

If you have suggestions for the theme, feel free to join us on Facebook as an alternative method of sharing your ideas.  www.facebook.com/concepteez or post your suggestions in a comment below.

The winner and the contenders may see their work featured in our next Concepteez's issue. Make sure your work is of a high standard (a4 size) and save wip shots to be qualified.

:bulletgreen: Illustration (Telling a story) Contest –"In the beginning" .

You all have two weeks from now to finish your entry. There is a timer on the front page which counts down this contest so you don't need to ask us about the time zones, just work it out from the timer.

:bulletgreen: Contest 39

You are allowed to add facts of your own but you must have the basic requirements (Has to be an Illustrated piece).

:bulletblue: Please add a small description in your entries stating that it is made for this competition so we know its not an old piece.

Also add:

  :bulletwhite: Software used
  :bulletwhite: Time taken
:bulletwhite: Add a link to wip file if you've managed to grab some screen shots of the process, similar to kuroi-tsuki.deviantart.com/art… and kuroi-tsuki.deviantart.com/art…
:bulletwhite: You can also add our logo by pasting :iconConceptWorld (add another : to the end) into your description.

:bulletgreen: New Rules

:bulletwhite: You can use any piece of software and the entry can be 2d or 3d concept.
:bulletwhite: Submit your entry to "Bi-Weekly Challenge". You can only submit one entry so do make it count.
:bulletwhite: Please make it relevant to the theme otherwise you will be disqualified from the public poll.
:bulletwhite: The folder will be blocked for submission after the deadline so try and leave some time to submit your work.
:bulletwhite: To make your work future proof try to make your canvases close to HD resolution (if your computer can cope with it).
:bulletwhite: If you have a 3D entry you must provide wire frames to prove the fact that it is 3D modelled. You can either link to the wire frames, or you can upload your designs in this format: gdsworld.deviantart.com/art/Je…
:bulletwhite: Follow the Group submission standards as well as the rules of the contest, Admins will only accept entries from an Intermediate level and higher.

:bulletgreen: Judging
Admins will be judging your piece based on these contributing factors [A link to a downloadable score sheet will be provided ASAP];

:bulletwhite: Is it a concept as a whole?
:bulletwhite: Do all the elements compliment each other?

We will mainly be looking for;

:bulletwhite: Originality
:bulletwhite: Composition
:bulletwhite: Presentation
:bulletwhite: Technique
:bulletwhite: Functionality
:bulletwhite: Narrative [where appropriate]
:bulletwhite:
Entries will be sorted by admins and we'll pick the top 10 entries after which Concepteez members can vote for them in the poll
*The admin team has the right to disqualify any entry if it doesn't meet our requirements. Winning the poll will not guarantee you 1st place.
While we will still be using public polls so all Concepteez can have their say, Admins have the final word when choosing a Winner.

:bulletgreen: Prize

:bulletwhite: You will be featured on our main page (a 640x480px image) for a whole week.
:bulletwhite: The winner will also be featured in our Featured folder, along with all the other glories you get from being a winner it'll be a great learning curve and you'll also receive a mention in the next blog.
:bulletwhite: You may also be featured in Concepteez's next issue.

:bulletwhite: Pass the torch: Starting now Contest Winners will be given code for a custom box to place on their DA Art page from us, stating which contest they won and the torch itself.
It serves as an icon that symbolizes hard work and achievement. So keep an eye out for it at the end of this round.
Furthermore, we'll be keeping a tally of the contest winners all year [previous winners this year will count]. The artist with the highest score will become :iconconceptworld: Artist of the year, and will receive many rewards to go with their achievement.

:bulletgreen:What's new?

We have a number of things to cover, the first is we've made a few changes to the contest rules, and have altered the round themes. So why alter the round themes?
Simple; Not everyone can participate in the same type of challenge. karapflasterannex.weebly.com/u…

:bulletwhite: Character round.
The focus should be the strength of your character design, put thought into the functionality of any clothing, armour, weaponry and/or equipment they may have.

:bulletwhite: Environment round.
Again this ones fairly obvious, focus on your environment design. Work on getting the perspective right and making it a dynamic and atmospheric piece.

:bulletwhite: Vehicle round.
Vehicle design - originality and functionality for travel, is it practical? Do you need that ten foot high wind breaker on a motorbike?

:bulletwhite: Aircraft round.
Aircraft design - again originality and functionality, how does it fly? Is that gaping window going to be practical when it flies though the o-zone layer?

:bulletwhite: Creature round.
Look at the strength of your creature design, put thought into the functionality of any clothing, armour, weaponry and/or equipment they may have.

:bulletwhite: Weapon round.
The main thing is originality and functionality, again is it practical? If it needs to fire long distance, should it have a scope?

:bulletwhite: Illustration - telling a story round.
The focus is how to communicate narrative effectively in Illustration. Do all the elements compliment each other? Is it a well rounded piece? Do you think the illustration communicates your story to people before they read the caption?

These are just rough guidelines to help you get started.

:bulletwhite:*Use this contest every week to improve your skills and share progression with your peers. You never know when you might get hired. :bulletwhite:;)

"There is a clear link between how well an image did on poll to the amount of time spent on it. So lets spend more time for a higher chance of success."

The theme for this competition is: Illustration (Telling a story) Contest –"In the beginning" . and the DEADLINE is Monday July 1st at midnight.

Let's get this show on the road Concepteez, we want to see your concepts!

Question:
What happened if the participant decide to continue this story for his/her own?
Must we give full rights of our story to the comitee, or will we be able to keep using our story without any copywright problems?

As Monkeybread says, your work is your own and you hold onto all copyright privileges related to your work. The contests are about practising while sharing with your peers for feedback, and have fun while we're at it ;)

You own all the copyright to your work of course. We may feature you in the magazine and might use your work in promo material for the group (web banners and what not) but that's about it. Oddifier will correct me if I'm wrong.

Another question, is it supposed to be a series? or just one page?

That's also completely up to you, if it's more than one page, put them into a panel on one image so it's a single submission.

I would say concentrate on one piece rather than a series. Put everything you have in that one piece.

We don't accept any form of fan-art sorry man, has to be your own story. Just need to illustrate a few lines you come up with yourself starting with "in the beginning". Welcome back ;)

can you clarify what the topic mean's? is it 'in the beginning' like creation? or can it be the beginning of anything? sorry if i'm ruining it with my needing to know details haha

In the beginning is just a starting point for your own narrative, you come up with the rest yourself then Illustrate it. So it can be in the beginning of anything ;) No worries if people don't ask they won't find out.
