Hey Concepteez,

Its time to keep the torch moving, Scorpion451 put his strong foot forward by winning the last round. This round will tell us if Scorpion451 has what it takes to be the first participant to hold the torch twice in a row. To spice up this round we're cutting down the time and you'll have just over a week to get your entries in.

After the variety of entries we had last round, it is evident that skills are developed over time and not being at a certain level is not a good enough excuse. You take part in order to improve, that's the whole idea. Now stop being lazy and show us what you got?

With that said, I wish you all luck and lets roll our next round. Chosen topic is Creature: Master of illusion and you have just over a week to get your entries in. Keep any eye on the main page for the end time. Deadline Sunday 29th September 2013.

Taking part for the first time? Make sure to read the Rules, Prizes and Judging here conceptworld.deviantart.com/jo…

Hi, small question: If your entry gets declined, are you allowed to try to improve it and submit it again before the deadline ends?
I think my entry was probably too dark (it looked fine on my laptop but now I'm on a different computer it looks like a dark mess XD ) so I'm gonna try lightening it up a bit.

One suggestion to try in the future is a cool trick that I recently found out about: from time to time add a temporary level adjustment layer, and slide around the midpoint from end to end a few times- really helps a lot with finding value balance issues like the one you mentioned. I use it to compensate for the changing lighting that hits my monitor over the course of a day since I work both in the glare of the afternoon and with backlighting late at night.

Basically if the image has a decent read when you slide the midpoint halfway to either end or farther, you're on the right track. Depending on the image and the monitor, you'll usually have a point where it turns entirely black and/or entirely white, but if it makes sense for most of the range you're golden on any monitor settings.

That's great advice Joshua, I'll definitely use that on my next project.

Yep, you still have some time to improve your piece, push yourself and resubmit it. We don't decline contest entries. However, we do expect you to give us your best.
The contrast thing, happens to many of us. I have two monitors so I know the feeling. Good luck!
