About Austin Hsu:

He was featured in the Spectrum 16 Illustration in 2010. He started his career at Massive Black before joining Concept Art House (CAH) in 2006. During his previous employment with CAH, Austin worked on Magic: The Gathering and World of Warcraft.

1. How would you describe your previous experience working for Concept Art House (CAH)?

Austin: The working experience I gained from CAH a couple of years ago set the foundation of my career as an artist. I acquired most of the essential art skill sets to be a successful artist from CAH. I regard CAH as my vocational alma mater.

2. How do you feel about the current CAH in comparison to couple years ago?

Austin: Compared to the CAH of a couple of years ago, the current CAH is full of fresh faces and new blood. I am especially excited about Jenny's return to the CAH family as our General Manager. It reminds me of the good old days. Jenny's leadership is one of the major contributing factors for my return to CAH.

3. What plans do you have as our Art Director? What do you want to achieve?

Austin: My first priority as Art Director is to improve the skill sets of our junior artists. They are very enthusiastic to learn and polish their skills. I will identify and categorize the weaknesses of our artists. Afterwards, I will target their problems and start training our artists. My goal is to use as little time as possible to get our artists to a level where they are skillful enough to work on AAA titles.

4. What do you want to say to our team members?

Austin: I personally consider it an honor to be working on the CAH team. I am a strong believer in our company and its potential. My five-year run with the company is the manifestation of my belief. Our opportunity to work in CAH is way beyond than just a paying job and catered meals. The work we do every day trains us and allows us to better ourselves as artists. This is especially true for junior artists.

5. What is your plan as an artist?

Austin: I can see myself continue to be an artist. More specifically, I want to actively participate in game development. My interest in game production originates from my involvement in a studio called Coconut Island last year. The studio launched a game called Mister Frog. The game did terribly, however it sparked my interest in pursuing more know-how in game development.

6. What does doing art mean to you?

Austin: The act of doing art gives me confidence, direction for my life, and of course a livelihood. I see the world through the lens of art creation. I perceive and experience the world with my artist mindset. When I am in the process of art creation, I feel like I am in a different dimension in which my creativity can run wildly.

7. What do you want to say to James, our CEO?

Austin: James was my first employer. He and I are more than just employer and employee. I always consider him as my big brother. He takes time to listen to me and gives me his advice on the questions and problems I have. I am very grateful for what he has done for me both professionally and personally. Now CAH is much bigger in size which is a result of incredible team work, leadership, and vision. I want to say: Great job James, my brother!
