Here's the layout for the Stereoscopy category, and these subcategories are now taking submissions:

• Anaglyph
  Stereoscopic art created for viewing with anaglyph glasses (where the two lenses are different colors).
• Wiggle
  Animated art where a pair of stereoscopic images is rapidly alternated between left and right eye
• Free View
  Stereoscopic pairs which can be viewed with the naked eye
  
  • Cross Eyed
    Stereoscopic pairs which can be seen by crossing your eyes
  
  
  • Parallel
    Stereoscopic pairs which can be seen by keeping your eyes parallel
• Autostereogram
  Patterns which create depth when using the cross-eyed or parallel view methods
• Natural Pairs
  Stereograms which occur naturally in a single image (by using repeated objects)
• Other
  Any other stereoscopic images which do not belong to one of the other categories

Now all you Stereoscopic 3D fans (that's the 3D that pops in/out of the screen, not the computer animation one) can submit and browse stereo work from one cohesive category!

Stereoscopy, commonly known as '3-D' is a method of creating an image which creates an illusion of depth. This works by showing a slightly offset picture to your left eye than your right eye, making things appear further forward or back into the picture!

The new category covers any stereo viewing methods including:
Anaglyph
Wiggle (A pair of stereo images which are alternated quickly to give the feeling of depth)
Cross-eyed/Side by Side (here's a great tutorial to help you see them)
Autostereogram (Like Magic Eye)
Etc. (This includes any other method of displaying a stereo image)

We already have a 3-Dimensional Art gallery. This is for art created in a computer program which uses X, Y and Z coordinates. Stereoscopy can be photography, drawings, sculpture, anything as long as it somehow offers a different image to each eye in order to create something with the illusion of depth. Although it's commonly reffered to as 3-D too, calling it that would just get confusing.



Cymae is the community volunteer for the stereo gallery. Any questions you have can be directed to her. Once the gallery starts filling up a bit, you can also suggest Daily Deviations from the stereo gallery to her. She'll also be running contests, writing articles and making tutorials related to the stereo gallery.

Stereoscopy is really a unique method of displaying an image. It's up to each artist to decide where to put it and which category it fits under best. Because stereo images are very distinct and specific, and there's a growing community for them, they now have their own category.
