Submitting Fan Fiction

Did you know that Fan Fiction, which is any writing based on the work of another author, has its own category in Fan Art > Fan Fiction? The Literature gallery is only for original works (or works based on settings without a specific author, such as myths and fairytales). Nonfiction is for true stories and commentary, including reviews, editorials, and guides.

If you're having trouble figuring out how to submit literature, check out FAQ #79: How do I submit art?.

Deviation Links

Did you know that you can get the direct link to a deviation even if it doesn't show a fav.me code? Just click on the deviation's title above the artist comments.

If you find a deviation through the search function, a fav folder, your message center, etc., the URL is often messy because it reflects the steps you took to get there. If you copy and paste what's in the address bar, you'll often end up with a link that ends in what ends in "#/do2ne7" - which may or may not work when another deviant clicks on it. Clicking on the title of the deviation you want to link and THEN copying the URL from the address bar gives you an address that will work every time. (This is especially helpful when doing stock credits!)

What would you like to know?

As we write this article series for you, the community, we would like to know: What aspects of the website do you want to learn more about? Or what can you teach other deviants about? If we decide to use your suggestion we will be sure to credit you. :) Thank you for your input in advance!

Why yes, I did know~ Literature and Manga/Anime seem to be having issues with Fan Art popping up.

... I'm going to spread this link around.

Chat users, please take note of the second point ;) Or anyone who links to deviations outside of dA. Those superbrowse AJAX links are just a pain to load, since you get that double page loading thing which is awkward and very slow/buggy. I usually use the fav.me link or copy the link location of the title =P

I didn't know about the first "Did you know...?"! :noes:
Well, I don't read fanfics that often, maybe it's because of that. :shifty:

Thank you very much! :la: I'm sharing this!

Yay! I hope the people who are mistakingly miscatting their deviations will see this. It is a little confusing to find Fan Fiction, if you don't know it's under Fan Art. And it makes those of us looking for fanfics look harder if the stories are miscat.

Great article! Thanks for sharing. :D

:noes: I feel a bit glad knowing that Manga/Anime isn't the only gallery that's having issues with fanart miscats.

:crying: I just hate the amount of fanart in M/A, it really messes up the features I post each month.

It's been a right mess in lit :B

M/A is just awful for fanart. :noes: Some people think that because its the M/A gallery, and the drawings they are making are from animes, that their art goes there. :B It would be nice if even half of the fanart in the M/A gallery were to go into fanart.

:ohnoes: I didn't know that!

Its the same concept with the literature gallery, only with the written works. :noes: The only thing that can really be done is try to let as many people about the appropriate galleries as possible, but that's a huge task.
