I actually don't have very high standards. the story of to love-ru isn't that great, but the art is. I tried reading the ehhhm sao manga but i really disliked the art. so yeah ._.
I just hopped over to look at the Sword Art Online manga (I'm only familiar with the anime), and I have to agree with you, something seems off with the art style. It's not terrible, but it seems like the head and eye proportions are a little funky.
