I worked with John K. back when he was doing "the Ripping Friends" in house at Red Rover. At first, I was excited about working with him. But soon, I started to see how much of a TOOL the guy is. He'd come in hung-over every day, and hit on all of the young women in the studio. (He seemed to prefer them 20 to 21) [Dirty-old-man-syndrome]. Approve things, then rip into them 2 hours later for being "shit", (he'd even do this to his OWN drawings without knowing it). And quite literally FROTH at the mouth whenever you started to talk to him about anything he had a strong opposing point of view on.

After roughly 2 months of putting up with his BS, the studio owner cut his ties with the project and John moved on to another studio, where he not only ruined his show, but the careers of 2 young female animators. (I think you can guess how..) Nuff Said.. The dude is a TOOL..

Nice to have insight from experience! If I'd been aware of his hangovers I'd have thrown that into the mix. (LOL, alcoholism!) From what you say, it seems near impossible to tell a parody of him from the real thing.

This makes me wonder if him and Kali Fontecchio (and even Katie Rice) have a...weird relationship.

I only know that Katie refuses to talk about her past experience at Spumco. I wouldn't be surprised if John K had something to do with that, but I respect Katie too much to try to go into it any further.

And regardless of how she feels about John K, Kali's already engaged. (To a cool animator, I might add; Myke Chilian!)

I wonder how much worse John is than, say, Richard Williams (another great Canadian animator with similar tantrums)?

Oh, I see...I didn't realize it was that bad since she at least talked A LITTLE about her first learning construction and the like at Spumco on her blog.

CONGRATS TO KALI!! I can't believe I didn't know that. (I looked at Myke's Tumblr for the first time just now...does he work on The Simpsons?)

IDK, he might be way worse than Richard Williams, seeing as how Williams just strikes me as an ardent perfectionist rather than a harassing, chauvinist blowhard. :D

Katie would make *veeeery* slight mention of her Spumco experience. Otherwise, she would say, "I don't want to talk about it."

I don't know if Myke worked on THE SIMPSONS, but it's possible. I do know he worked on THE RICKY GERVAIS SHOW, and did some awesome shorts for CHANNEL 101, including McBUSTERS, which I enjoyed immensely!

You have a very good point about Richard Williams, though. I know Dick behaved like a monster at times, but at least he was a passionate man, who focused on the positives. After THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER collapsed, he did more instructional stuff, and it's great learning, whether you're doing computer or hand-drawn! On the other hand, even though John K makes great points, he is, objectively, a very, very negative man. I think he should really try doing webcomics if he can't get animation done. Hey, Katie's doing it! And Kyle's doing it! ;)

Even Kali does some Maude Moscher stuff. :D

Oh yeah! I recall seeing a clip of The Ricky Gervais Show on The Daily Show, it looked really cute and old-school Flintstones-y (but I'm sure John K. would shit on it ;)), I also saw a lot of that Channel 101 stuff on Kali's blog, it's a shame I don't get that station!

Yep! Loved her Maude Macher comic! I hope she makes more! I also loved her animated Maude short for one of CHANNEL 101's shows! You saw it, right? :)

I saw one episode of THE RICKY GERVAIS SHOW, and loved the animation/design! I'd love to see more stuff like that on TV.

I haven't seen it yet, but hopefully I can find it on her blog. :meow:

Two young female animators? I can probably think of one, but who would the other be?
