Interstellar Discovery by Colourbrand Interstellar Discovery by Colourbrand
"Earth Base, this is Kentares; the Jump Engine worked; Stand by."

"Earth Base, we have arrived at a system that has what appears to be a 'black hole' for a sun. People, you should see this thing; its so unbelievable, its like darkness perfect. Its amazing. We are not going to explore this area - the time relativity theories and the gravity pressures are too risky for now. Maybe one day with better ships. We will make recordings, them move on - Kentares out"

------

More works on the Kentares, inspired by the Endurance from  Interstellar; the film was alright, laboursome in many places, did not explore space enough but was a refreshing change from intergalactic invincible heroes who always win combined with kaboom, kaboom, kaboom.

Highlight was the visuals, especially Gargantua the black hole sun. I had to do something inspired by that thing - hence this :D

Hope you like this - and hopefully more of the Kentares will come soon :)

Comments and feedback welcome.

Enjoy :D

HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHHA!!!!!

God YES!!!!

And here's another bug bear -  Ranger 1 needs a Saturn based rocket to leave Earth; yet the three planets around Gargantua - all Earth like, Ranger 1 can land and take off with ease - like a Star Fleet shuttle...

Super cool. I love the hard SF feel... but then that just makes it accurate to the movie, hm? It's images like these that lie at the heart of fascination with interstellar travel.

The black hole design is in fact incredible, and quite realistic too.

Anyhow, I do love what you did here. It's refreshing and cool.

Great picture, and a pretty cool movie - the whole time dilation thing was just bizarre.

I thought Endurance looked quite a bit like the Lab Ship from the Traveller game, complete with the shuttle docked in the center. I wonder if it was an influence to this design or just coincidence.

Not to plus any of my work, but I made a SketchUp model of the Lab Ship a few years ago: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model…

Thanks for the link and I agree - who knows ;)

I wish they did more space stuff than focus on the "human drama" but hey.

Thanks for the comment sir :D

Well it's cheaper overall, to film the human drama. Every special effects shot costs a few million bucks. This is especially the case with TV shows - that's why if you watch, say, The Walking Dead, and see a ton of special effects in one episode, like the season opener - expect the rest of the season to be a snoozer until the finale, because that's where the budgets go.

I have not seen the film yet, and will not till it comes on the tube, but I like your design much better. Theirs looked something like a string of TARDIS' or refrigerators on a loop. Yours looks like some kind of coil or accelerator ring. I like the red color. Sort of reminds me of the Vulcan ring ships that began to propagate Star Trek Enterprise, as well as the ring on the Enterprise (XCV 330).

Ahhhh - well the red is the glare off the black hole sir; but I went with what they did but I did it different.

Must admit, smiled about the "string of tardis'" and Refrigerators in a loop :D

Thanks for popping by :D

Really atmospheric, Chris.  I love these sci-fi films that focus on space itself rather than just the 'bad guys'.

I think we talked about 'The Black Hole' movie a few times?
