My name is Fleur Bakker. I took office at FONDEMA foundation to organize the Arabic Pavilion for the Children's book Market of October 2014. Every year, the week of the children's book takes place in different large cities of The Netherlands. The children's book market is part of this event and will take place in the City Hall of The Hague at 12 October 2014.
Foundation FONDEMA is an apolitical and non-religious organization based in The Hague, The Netherlands, working towards a renewed dialogue among Europe, the Middle East and Africa through business consultancy, cultural projects and networking. FONDEMA is a member of the Anna Lindh Foundation Network and possesses the official Dutch ANBI certification recognizing its status as a charitable organization.
Our mission is to advance understanding between North and South by developing cultural initiatives, fostering international cooperation, promoting and managing shared programs together with European, Middle Eastern and African partners.
On the children's book market of October 2014, in addition to the presentation of Dutch children books, different language pavilions will give an inspiring impression of foreign-language children's literature. FONDEMA will organize this year for the second time the Arabic Pavilion. In the Arabic Pavilion, the goal is to get children acquainted with the Arabic language and culture.
There exist few Arabic books in The Netherlands which also have a Dutch translation. This also has to do with the few Arabic publishers and bookstores that can be found in The Netherlands. Finding an Arabic book with a Dutch translation would be great to present at the Children's book market. However, getting more familiar with Arabic (children's books) authors and books would be great. Therefore, I would kindly like to ask if you can help us with this, or recommend authors or books to us. I would really like to see your suggestions and help with this. Thank you very much in advance,
