Nyan Cat Scarf Pattern by collarander Nyan Cat Scarf Pattern by collarander
NOTE: Many people have mentioned that the number of stitches for the rainbow scarf are not long enough to make 50 inches. This is dependent on both your personal knitting tension and also the thickness of the yarn you use. I used 2 stands together of double knitting. For best results, please knit up a gauge piece and work from the measurement to avoid disappointment with your Nyan. NOTE

Had people asking for it so I decided to hurry up! lol

A knitting pattern for the Nyan cat scarf I made~

I didn't put in wool lengths as I wasn't sure how much I used, but I think about 1/2 a 50g ball of each colour...roughly 90-100m? But don't go completely by this as I could be wrong!

I'm hoping there'll be some people who will try out this pattern and tell me if it works, as I wrote the pattern after I finished the scarf, so it might not be 100% accurate, though it should be close.. o_o;;
This is the second pattern I've written up, so apologies in advance if it's not very easy to follow :(

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this and spread the Nyan Cat love next winter~ :3

(I'm planning on knitting a Tac-Nayn version of the scarf later on too, fingers crosses it goes well :D)

Very nice pattern though while making it I spotted a couple issues. One for making the ears you don't have two stars marked only one. For the head you don't indicate what seam you're speaking of since there isn't any seam really there.

I'm making this scarf for a pen pal of mine, but the pop tart pattern confuses me a little. I understand all of the techniques used except when you say to "switch to" the pink for the icing. Exactly what technique is this called? I'm willing try a new one and look up the YouTube tutorial, but I'm not sure what to search. Thanks!

Hi~ The colour switching technique is called intarsia. It's when there is more than one colour used on a row of knitting. Hope this helps with the Youtube search :)

US size (4mm), but it won't matter very much if use a different size. Nyans come in all shapes and sizes XD

I loved this!!! Very fun to make, and it turned out AMAZING. :D Only one question: your pattern said under the rainbow part that the scarf would be 50 inches. When I made the rainbow part, it measured 40 inches, and when I added the cat, the scarf was 50 inches. I had assumed from the pattern that the rainbow part alone would be 50 inches; is that what you meant?

Hmm...I've had a lot of people comment about the length of the rainbow. The problem here is that we all might have different knitting tensions even if we used the same sized needles, and also the different types of yarn will make a difference to the length. I'm sorry to hear that the scarf didn't turn out exactly as I mentioned in the pattern, though I'd glad you still like it! I measured the rainbow scarf I made and it was 50 inches for me using two strands of DK yarn together.

Well come to think of it, I do tend to knit a bit more tightly than most. I guess that might have been the cause of my scarf's shortness. But it still fits and works, so I'm quite happy with it. :D

Maybe measure the amount of stitches to say an inch so we have an idea of tension for this?

I was allittle disappointed with it. I made the scarf exactly, and it was too short. However, it was fun to make

The only comment I have is that you may want to try a small sample first to see if you need two strands together. I apparently used heavier yarn, because mine came out way to stiff the first time. I did it again with one strand and it was perfect. I used Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight.

Thanks :D I'm glad you were able to produce a Nyan Cat using this pattern! Oh and I think I used light double knit wool to make mine and the scarf was a little bit stiff but I like it better that way.
I hope you friend is very happy with their new pet/accessory XD

I think you'll be able to do it!
The only tricks you'll need to know are knit together and knit front and back, which aren't difficult to learn.
Think positive =D
I hope you decide to make one~

When it says using double strands of wool, does that mean knitting with 2 strands from 2 balls?

Hi~
Yup using double strands does mean using two strands of wool at a time. It takes me around 5-7 days to complete though this varies a lot depending on the speed of your knitting and how much time you spend working on it each day.
And to answer your last question, sorry I'm not selling Nyan Cat scarves..but with this pattern you could try making it yourself or ask somebody you know who knits?
Thanks for the interest :)
