What non-art things are you passionate about?
I kind of think that everything I am passionate about is art, but here goes:
I would have to say my biggest passion is Tabletop Gaming, especially RPGs. I love how gaming can bring people together, and how it gets people thinking creatively. It is also a great way to tell a story, as I feel I have a lot of stories in me, but writing is not something I am good at.
Also, I love Martial Arts. My wife and I currently do Kung Fu (specifically Northern Shaolin Eagle Fist) and when I was a kid I did 9 years of Pentjak Silat ( Poekoelan Tjimindie). Every Martial Art is interesting, though, and I love learning about the history, application, and philosophies of various systems. Martial Arts movies are also a lot of fun!
Books are also something I am constantly collecting and reading. Usually I read 3-5 books at a time, and probably finish 6-7 a month. Of course, Fantasy, sci-fi, and horror are my favorites, but I also read a lot of history, philosophy, and non-fiction books ABOUT fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. I also have a pretty sizable collection of books about the paranormal, urban legends, and local weirdness. Everytime I travel, I try to find books about local legends and hauntings of the place I have traveled to. US National Parks gift shops are a surprising gold-mine when it comes to local ghost tales.
Do you find the things you’re passionate about impact the art you create? If so, how?
Definitely! I get spurred on to create when I am with friends telling stories, or reading about strange sightings and encounters. Also, exercise is a great cure for creative blocks.
Does your passion for art impact the other things you are passionate about?
Yep! They are one and the same. I feel that art and my passions are all the same thing. Like an Ouroboros, passion fuels the art, which makes me passionate, which fuels the art .... and the circle continues.
