So I just got some news. Apparently our schools Humans vs Zombies event has be canceled. It wasn't canceled due to any violent incidents or serious injuries. No it was canceled because several donors to our school were upset due to people running around with Nerf guns and felt that those in charge were not doing their job. as a result, campus police shut us down. I find this extremely disappointing, not just because we had every right to play and had moderators on duty, but because it just shows how paranoid and ignorant people are getting in this country. This may be due to events like the bombing in Boston or the various shootings of last year. These events were certainly horrific and tragic, but we can not let our judgment and common sense give way to hysteria; because it leads to new laws and regulations that are Restricting people's freedom even more. The assault weapons ban, background checks and TSA airport scans are just a few examples. We need to find the root of the problem, not put restrictions on things just because we fear someone could get hurt. we need to educate people on issues, not just just blindly follow the news and politicians. the bane of ignorance is knowledge, and with things like the internet, it really isn't hard to learn about things these days. If more people could just find understanding. maybe things like this wouldn't happen in the first place.
