Similar, but I was older - I was home from work, flipping thru channels...there was this anime with a kid with really weird head of hair.  As I was flipping on, my eye caught the inverted pyramid and I flipped back, knowing that any show that pandered to my love of ancient Egyptian stuff had a damn good chance of catching me.  But I never saw any manga till SJ debuted here in america

That is an awesome way to have found Yu-Gi-Oh! My story is the following...I had just moved to another town so that I could go to the new college I was to go to my second year of college. I lived in a house with some other college students. One night when I was watching some Pokemon anime on a computer next to me someone was watching Yu-Gi-Oh! Little bit by little bit I got interested in the anime. Finally I decided to watch it. I fell in love with it and have never gone back. That was about three years ago in October. About two years ago a friend I met here on dA inspired me to buy the manga and read it. Glad she did, because the manga is truly amazing. That year I got my first Yu-Gi-Oh! card. Which was the spell card "Yu-Jo Friendship" in one of the manga volumes I bought. It wasn't until about a year ago that I really started collecting more Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. I had been into becoming a duelist like the characters in the anime. As you can see Yu-Gi-Oh! has been a big part of my life for the last three years. I could go on, but I will save that for if people would like to ask.

Wow great! I'm not much into collecting the cards though I do have a few from some of the manga that I have collected. I definitely suggest the manga over the anime, there are parts in it that you don't see in the show, especially the 4kids version. (shudders)
Though there are moments in the anime that I do love. ^^ There are more moments between Atem and his father in the show then in the manga.

I see and I love collecting the cards. However the anime is my most favorite thing related to Yu-Gi-Oh! I actually like the anime more than the manga. The Japanese version of the original series is great. Those were wonderful moments and I loved seeing those flashbacks. Puzzleshipping Yugi Yami Emoticon
