Deities of Dragons by CoffeeAddictedDragon Deities of Dragons by CoffeeAddictedDragon
Many ages ago, the world of Nol was only rehabilitated by two main creature types. Mortal creatures and Spirit Deities. The mortal creatures were very basic and there were not many. In modern times, there are many species that splintered off of these basic first animals but that is for another tale.

The spirits were powerful and unique and each one of them represented something in the world of nature or magic and sometimes both. Some parts of nature had multiple spirits or "aspects" to guard them because they were so powerful and common.

The sun had three Spirit Aspects. Among these three was the draconic spirit Solan. He was massive and feared by many. He was the bringer of justice and shield against those who threatened his element and what he stood for.

Now Solan never really took great interest as to what happened in the land of men and beasts, however on one particular day the great dragon decided to rest and explore the forests and mountain he lived away from.

He stayed out for much longer then usual and before long it had become night. Now the dragon would never admit it, but he could not for the life of him navigate the world at night, for he only really knew the day. And so he wandered. He wandered and wandered until he heard the softest of voices call to him from ahead.

Desperate for help and curious as to who could possibly call him by name, Solan ran forward, following the voice.

He followed until he came to an open clearing bathed in moon light.

And it was empty.

But who had called him? His unspoken question was answered when the voice spoke behind him in quiet and warm greeting.
Solan turned to see another draconic creature standing behind him. She was very different from him though. She was small and slim with bat wings and silvery horns. Star like flecks covered the length of her dark body, shimmering in the faintest light of the real stars and moon above them.

She greeted him again, introducing herself as Lunadite, one of the three aspect spirits of the moon.

She two was the shield to the moon, but unlike Solan she was not harsh nor intimidating. Instead she was a promise of tender protection against those that would harm.

Lunadite questioned the sun dragon as to why he would so foolishly wander around when the world was now in her favor. Solan, indignant and slightly embarrassed, answered that even if his duty was to the sun, that it was good to learn the field of other elements and to be diverse in knowledge. Lunadite nodded and agreed before questioning if he knew the way back.

Solan, with all his pride, wasn't an idiot. He admitted he was lost and needed assistance in returning home. The dark dragon laughed, a harmonious and warm sound, before offering to help him. She explained that she did not know the way back to his home, but she knew her way around the world and wood at night and could keep him safe and entertained until the dawns light returned.

Solan knew that once the sun returned, he would know how to return home, so he took the moon spirit's deal.

And so the two walked together in the moon light, and flew among the stars talking of their duties and of many odd and interesting spirit things.

Soon dawn returned, but Solan felt no hurry to return for he had fallen quiet hard for the beautiful Lunadite, and Lunadite felt no need to rest and sleep the day away for she too had fallen for the sun dragon.

And so they began seeing eachother, meeting at dusk and dawn, slipping away to stay together and keep eachother company.

Finally, after many many years of courtship, the sun dragon finally began to consider proposing union to her. But this would mean he would give up some of his power, for one cannot be an aspect of the sun AND have familial and worldly duties.

Solan, conflicted over weather it was the right thing to do, consulted with one of his fellow sprits, another aspect of the sun. A fiery golden beast by the name of Ariphet. He asked his spirit brother what to do.

Ariphet answered that the sun would always remain, and that they were more like glorified ambassadors. He and the third sun spirit could handle themselves.

And so, Solan and Lunadite became mates. Together they raised their children, the first elemental dragons, who went out into the world and took husbands and wives and had children of their own.

And thus, the elemental dragons were born.

________________________________________________________________

Short version of the story and slightly rushed, but it gets the point across. Way back in Nol's history, there were dragons living in the world before Solan and Lunadite had their children, but they had no elements and they weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. However, years of breeding with the first elemental dragons made them into the dragons like Mercury we all know and love today.
