Part of the major issue with ai and blocking is that so many people who post it still don’t tag it appropriately. Or they keep making up new tags to dodge blocks of old ones. There really needs to be an easy way to report something not correctly tagged as ai, otherwise it defeats the entire purpose of the “I don’t want to see ai” settings.
I still don’t love that it’s on here (and so many other sites) to begin with, but given DA has at least listened to some of the feedback from artists re: it in the past (unlike certain other sites) I’m hoping they continue to support artists in this regard. If some (I.e. many) of us want that stuff completely walled off from actual human-made art, and never want to see it, we should be able to do so.
Would also really love a feature that auto-blocks people who post ai from viewing one’s gallery, as that’s another reason block lists can fill up fast. We *hope* the noAI tag gets respected but it’s never guaranteed and that would be one additional layer of protection.
So well done! I’m always impressed by people who have the patience to animate like this, and this well! it’s like wizardry to me!

Ah, okay I’m caught up now. I already commented on your other journal with my stance on reposts (usually fine as long as credit is included).
Frankly, it’s entirely possible you contacted me to ask for permission at some point (which I likely granted) and I just don’t remember. I get a lot of messages like that and I’ve not been super active on online art spaces lately due to being distracted by health issues (which have also been doing a number on my short-term memory).
That said, I saw some of the people whose art you had posted mentioned they had clear, publicly-stated policies against reposting, making it highly unlikely they granted permission if asked…
I don’t want to make any unwarranted accusations, especially about something that I’m not personally even upset about. But I feel the need to offer a little advice, as someone who is probably a bit older than a lot of those involved and has been around for long enough to have made plenty of mistakes and learned from them…
I don’t know whether you tried to ask everyone’s permission and then forgot who you’d asked, and mistakenly included some pieces by artists without securing permission first, or if you were just reposting without securing permission, and added the “asked permission thing” after people got upset, hoping you could save face publicly by making it look like they may have just forgotten they granted permission. Either way it seems very unlikely some of those artists granted permission.
Either way, look, everyone makes mistakes. And if it was the latter, I understand the impulse to try to spin the situation to look better than it is. But one thing I’ve learned, both from my own mistakes and watching others, is that it’s usually better just to be honest and upfront about what happened.
Some people will be mad, and yeah that sucks, but you’ll find many others will be understanding and forgiving. I find people are far too reluctant to admit to being in the wrong and it’s a shame, because none of us are perfect, and I honestly really admire people who are willing to be honest about their mistakes and learn from them.
I imagine this experience of having artists you admire upset with you probably stings quite a bit. But I promise that feeling will pass. Again, we ALL make mistakes. And as you can see, many of us were totally fine with the reposts regardless, and those that weren’t, now you know just to double check with artists in the future to be safe. And while I can’t tell others what to think, personally I hope those who are upset are able to forgive because in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t something that should cast a negative mark on someone forever.
I’ve spent years dealing with actual commercial theft of my art (people selling it as their own), which really puts things like this in perspective. I’m honestly generally flattered when fans like my art enough to share it and I do see it as a form of support, even though I know not everyone agrees.
Anyway, it’ll be okay, hang in there! 🩷
