You know, I've long felt that tricorders never seemed to have enough controls for all the things you regularly see them do in the show, and looking at this now is only emphasizing that for me. It seems the prop designers figured most of the functions would be mostly fully automated, which would be fine if it weren't for the fact the darn devices are constantly getting rigged to do custom tasks they aren't normally meant to do out of the box, so where are the controls needed for doing that, hmm?
