It wasn’t long before master started barking orders at me
“I said ‘eye of neta’ not bloody ‘eye of newt’ ya idiot.”She shoves the plastic container back into my hands
“Sorry Master.” I walk to the caber full of ingredients and food looking for 'eye of neta'. A glass jar with different color eyes had the word ‘neta’ written on it. I switch the container and handed master the glass jar. She scoops a spoon full to dump in the metal pot full of stew.
She’s wearing a loose black tank top hiding what little cleavage she has. Her dark blue jeans clung to her thighs as the rest hides her muscular calves. A black apron hung on her small frame as she sturs gently with hands that can crush a full grown tree.
“Go call for Plague. Dinner almost ready,” she orders me with even looking.
“Yes Master,” I immediately walk on the door to call for him.
We live in a cabin deep in the woods. Notion frightening happens here, like the movies, besides masters training. It’s a good place to practice magic without worrying about hurting anyone or being seen.
Plague especially like it because it allows him to really stretch his legs.
“Plague, Dinner,” I shouted as loud as I can. The sky was blackout with the porch light as my only source to see in the darkness. In the distance, I hear the earth tremble as animals cry out trying to get away. Trees crack, breaking in half, making way for a colossal beast. The ground starts to shake as it grows nears. Knowing what coming fear was only a small part of what I feel but not entirely gone. In one bound in leaped in front of me skating dirt at me. The black creature sat as massive as the cabin with it soulless red eyes staring at me. It’s breath smell of dead animals as his brown fangs show.
“Master called for dinner,” I told it in a steady voice. It let out a dreadful huff then began to gradually shrink in size. It didn’t stop till it was a normal size rabbit. He still all black but had white symbols of magic all over his body.
He neighed like a horse at me. Not able to understand what his random sounds mean I stay quiet. He hoped to the door as it swings open on its own. Despite his being an animal he does have magic. Master sometimes say that I may be good enough to be his apprentice. I know I haven’t gotten much better at magic or know basic stuff but that doesn’t mean I’m not trying. I’ve been working hard trying to do every spell while running around doing whatever she says in hope of pleasing her. I don’t know if I ever will be as good as Plague but It’s not like I can go back to my old life. I let out a tired sigh from the sudden flow of thoughts as I close the door.
“Hey moron, set the table,” Master yells at me.
“Yes master,” I quickly made my way to the dark brown china cabinet. I open it showing mix match cups and plates from the clearance rack. I reach up to the grab some plates when I felt something hit the back of my head. I grab my head as I turn to see a black spatula on the floor. I look to see an upset master
“Ya stupid or what? Use magic.” She turns back to the pot. “What have I been doing….” Her voice lower to a grumble of annoying sounds. I put the black spatula in the cabinet and took a step back. I point my haves towards the plates to help focus on them.
“Move.” I felt the familiar sensation of water flow from the ground to my fingertips. I stare hard to the plates pouring everything into moving them. The plates shifted, clicking against each other till the top one slowly lift up. I turn with the green plate as it moves towards the round table. It stops above the wooden round table when I felt the magic suddenly vanish letting the green plate fall. My heart fell with it as it stops before crashing down. Master gently set in on top of the round table without even turning to look. I know I shouldn’t feel ashamed that I’m so far behind her but what I know and what I feel are two different things.
“Put more feeling into it. Ya need to remember to pull the magic from around ya and in ya.” She didn’t sound annoyed like usual. I nodded, even if she doesn't see, and turn back to the dark brown cabinet. I held up my heads ready to give it all I got.
“Move to table,” I harshly spoke. A huge wave flows into me and pours out to the plates. The Plates click against each other before lifting up. Three glass cups rise with them. I steadily turn with them as we make our way to the wooden table. Suddenly Plague rams his head into the back of my leg. I stare at the tableware ignoring the growing dull pain. They stop above the table as I walk closer. I lower my hands as do the plates and glasses. I clumsy set them on the table with a clicking of glass. I quickly straighten them properly as Master walks over with a steaming bowl of stew.
“Ya got to make sure ya are putting feeling into it and not ya head or ya lose it.” She sounds a little concern but her firm voice hides it well.
“Yes master, I’ll try harder.” I sat on a simple wooden chair across from master. She levitates a metal ladle to scoop the food out and pour it everyone's plate. I was so thick with meat a vegetable that you can hardly call it a soup. A metal pitcher of water floats towards us and gently pour into each glass. Plauge glass was more like a steep bowl for him. He sat on top of the round table to eat with us. Her meals don’t look so favorable and smell anything but amazing. As I eat I take small bites with the least amount touching my tongue always chasing it with water discretely as possible.
As soon as I swallow the last bite Master ask “How ya like it?”“I don’t know,” was the best answer I could give. If I lie to her she’ll know instantly and punishes me. She moves the metal ladle for a second serving and places it on my plate and waits. I look down at it avoiding eye contact. Not wanting to upset her I shall continue to suffer through this meal till the end. I took a small spoonful ready to swallow immediately but the moment I place it in my mouth it was set aflame. I spat it out couching and I reach for my half-empty glass.
Unable to quench the flames a ran to the grey sink and turn the faucet. Not a drop came out while my eyes start to water. I turn to master to see a most spine chilling smile with a blue glass or milk in her hand.
“Put the dishes away,” She orders me with a sinister look yet innocent voice. I start panting in hopes to cool my mouth even a little. “Plates move.” I felt the familiar flow of magic through me as the glass plates shifted up on their side causing the food to fall. I clumsily scrap the food into the trash and place them in the sink. I focus on a washcloth to clean up the fallen food. My throat was dry was it aches with thirst. I toss out the last bit on food and clean the food off the plates I turn for my reward. I look with defeat as master parted the now empty glass from her lips. She lazily walks over to the sink and places the glass with the rest.
