I completed the Unicorn Gundam Banshee costume finally after I installed the psychoframe lights in the cannon and the head the day before. The Unicorn models (Unicorn & Banshee) really gave me a great challenge and along the way I met up with a lot of obstacles in the making process and in life.
The ...Unicorn models may not have wings or big accessories like some other Gundam costumes I have made, but they are the only Gundams that I found difficult to plan and make. The details are crazy and with the psychoframe lights in so many parts, the mecha cosplay tutorial that I came out with is hardly applicable. With the general drop in qua
My mecha cosplay tutorial is completed at last! Compiling this tutorial is very challenging to me as there are a lot of methods and experiences that I want to share with everyone. I hope that I can influence more people to start cosplaying mecha using this tutorial.
Mecha costume making is a way I train my determination and mental tolerance because the process of making it requires a lot of effort compared to most other types of costume. Being in the suit is also quite a challenge where I have to maintain my balance on high platforms and move around with limited vision. In making the costume, I identified three points when one will want
At last I have completed the tutorial for the structure making of a Mecha/Gundam... It will be sufficient for anyone who wants to build a mecha costume. The rest of the tutorial touches on asthetics which may be not useful to alot of people because PVC plastic sheets seem hard to find in other countries.
It has been a tedious process compiling the tutorial which is based on version 9 of my mecha costume making method. I used to have a version 7 tutorial which has the exact measurements for each part...but I guess that will fit my size only and may not work well on others....and I kinda want people to think about the scaling and measurements
I am judging for AFA Regional Cosplay Championship
I am judging for AFA Regional Cosplay Championship
I am very grateful to Anime Festival Asia ( http://www.animefestival.asia/afa12/index.html ) that I will be judging for the Regional Cosplay Championship this year again and it is an honour to be judging along side with Kaname☆ once again =).
The contesting teams consist of the best cosplayers who won the country finals in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand after rounds of preliminary contests in the various states. It will be an eye opener to see the best perform on the AFA stage. One of the main feature of the competition that I am looking forward to is the video made by the teams to aid their performance.
The organiser of 中新杯国家动漫园首届COSPLAY大赛 (cosplay.ku6.com) in CHina Tianjin has completely played me out like a fool. They invited me as a guest on 28 Sep 2012 and to judge their cosplay competition on 27 & 28 Oct 2012. I sent my enquiries on 29 Sep and they promise me on 1st Oct the following:
1) Flight and accommodation for me and my assistant
2) other expenses I will incure
3) custom made seat for me to sit down in my Gundam costume
While I am researching more on the event, they sent a 2nd invitation on Oct 4 and I accept their invitation on 6 Oct in the
My previous journal talk about me and my partner giving World Cosplay Summit this year because the Singapore prelims were brought forward by around 5 months and we simply do not have time to prepare in a short notice. So, year 2013 can be our second chance... but... apparently not.
The organisers decided to implement a new system whereby cosplayers in my country have to register with them and go through an interview. The organisers will select the cosplayers that they think fit the criteria to draw lots to pick a random partner. Good for cosplayers who do not have a partner....but extremely bad for cosplayer like me who already found one.
8 weeks of preparing for competition with a full time job... 2 mecha costume, 1 performance, pre-recorded sound, music, voice... at 7.00.a.m on the day of WCS selection round in Singapore, I dropped out of the competition with my partner. It came as a blow to me....
Just about 16 weeks ago, I was discussing with my partner over plans and strategy for WCS Singapore finals which is usually held in July/June and the preliminary round in March. Our plans looked good and the preparation would start in December 2011. In December 2011, official word for WCS Singapore is announced, there will be no preliminary round for WCS Singapore and the
After much "encouragement" from my wife, I have decided to join this year's WCS with my crazy partner Baoshin. We will be cosplaying mechas and we plan to redefine mecha cosplay performance by bringing mobility of mecha costumes to a new level. Regarding "crazy Baoshin", he is the only person I know who can move at an incredible speed in a mecha costume on 15 cm platform shoes despite having little experience in mecha cosplay. I believe that he will make a great partner in mecha cosplay.
WCS prelims make me stressed because the date (26th February 2012) came as a shock to me... Kinda confirm the dates at the end of year 2011 and my orig
I started the Unicorn cosplay project 2 years ago and met up with a series of unfortunate events with it. All these events led me to think of it as the Curse of the Unicorn. The following are the obstacles that are stopping me to debut my project in the 2 years:
I made version 1 of the costume and it is so unstable that it falls apart
I got food poisoning when I tried to debut version 2 of the costume one+ years ago in STGCC 2010
A cat sneaked into my house and damaged some parts of version 2
I have planned my wedding for this year and so far, things are according to plan. Execution has not met with any obstacles yet and timing for everything we have planned seems ideal. The plan has unnecessary costs reduced to minimum with a lot of DIY. The wedding concept is cosplay focused with performances to entertain the guests. Everything seems to run smoothly but yet me and my fiancee are stressed; We are stressed not of the planning or execution but of opinions and instructions from other people.
We have been given different opinions and instructions by different people on:
(1) how we should use their approach to plan and execute o
It was time of the year again for Anime Festival Asia, an event I had been always looking forward to. Last year I was attending AFA 09 as a finalist in the Regional Cosplay Championship and this year, I attended AFA X as judge for the Cosplay Championship along with celebrity cosplayers Kaname, Aira and Alodia. This year, I also had to honour of working with the organisers to come out with the rules and judging criteria for the competition with reference to a set of competitive standards I have been creating.
The competitors for this year's competition focused a lot on armour, with the exception of Singapo
I will be in the panel of judges for the Regional Cosplay Championship in AFA X. But I guess the organisers will not be announcing that since the event is gonna take place in a few day's time despite the fact that I am invited in August and contributed to the rulings... maybe I am too insignificant to be mentioned...lol
For the cosplay competition, I have came out with standards for rules and judging for different types of competitive cosplay, known as "Costour' under "Cosplay Alliance". I worked with the organisers of AFA to fine tune the standards to fit the competition requirements. Responsible for the standards, I am sorry for not giv
