It is with deep sadness that I write this comment on my husband's deviantart site. He so appreciated all his kind, creative friends on this site, so I know he would want me to inform you all.....on Valentines Day of this year Rene gave up the 1.5 year battle with cancer. He fought hard til the end. His spirit was very strong and full of gratitude for his life, his family and all that he enjoyed through God's blessing for 68 years. The chemotherapy worked partially, but the metastatic cancer just kept coming back with a vengeance. He always told me that his photographic legacy would be kept on deviantart for all to enjoy. I am so glad for this, as he had a brilliant way of capturing birds, nature and people, and as glitchy as computers can be as they age, they are unreliable at best as a place to store files.
Please remember him as one who embraced the beauty and wonder of the natural world, and as a fellow artist who loved to encourage others to discover their own self expression. I miss him everyday and still cannot believe he will not show up here one day and shoot his arrow, feed the backyard birds and fill the water bowl for Bingo. So, in honor of this fellow artist and naturalist, go out and enjoy nature in whatever way fills you with happiness. He would love that! Remember how fleeting life is, not just for us humans, but for the trees, flowers, birds, insects, etc., and how we all must do what we can to preserve what we can....while we can.
May your day be beautiful. If you are sad, look at a bird and know that his spirit is soaring.
