Pixel Tree by stuck-in-suburbia The Emoticon Family Tree Project Pixel Tree by stuck-in-suburbia

Recording Relationships, Friendships and other Relations in the Emote Community

This began with wondering about the connections between emotes, who is related to who? What does this one think of this one? Are they friends, or enemies? Once voicing these thoughts, there was an immedeate response to the idea, and so Indae and I decided to work together to bring the idea into reality! We want to present a visual project/record of the relationships between emote OCs :aww: Those in emote teams will be in the tree houses and those who have daughters/sons etc will be linked via special colour coded vines.

Pixel Tree by stuck-in-suburbia The Entries Pixel Tree by stuck-in-suburbia

:bulletred: The entry should be 20px by 20px or less (featuring emotes of the 'standard' 16px by 16px size)

:bulletorange: Entries must be static, not animated

:bulletyellow: Entries need to be sent to ClefairyKid so it can be added to one of our collection folders

:bulletgreen: Each OC can only appear once on the tree, so be sure you know who you want to work with if you want to collaborate with someone else

:bulletblue: We suggest that if you want to really show everyone the relationship your emote has with another, you work with that deviant to create a collaborative piece of the two emotes interacting with each other :aww: It's not 100% necessary, but would add a lot of personality to the tree.

:bulletpurple: In the artist's comments section of the entry, we ask that you explain the relationships/links that the character has (since you can only appear once but might have several other links), so that we know what vines to add and where best to place you on the tree :aww: It's also interesting for others if you feel like getting into detail and telling some kind of story (remember, it should still be okayed by the other emote creator in the relationship).

Pixel Tree by stuck-in-suburbia The Rules Pixel Tree by stuck-in-suburbia

:bulletred: You need to get permission from the other OC creator(s) before becoming 'officially' related to them (you can't randomly decide to be the long lost sister of half the emote community without even asking their creators first! :lmao: )

:bulletorange: You don't just have to be a daughter, or son, you can be a wife/husband,  father/mother, best friend or mock rival/enemy (please don't use this to abuse others, we mean this in a purely fun way and again both sides must agree to the relation)

:bulletyellow: Each character is limited to 4 possible vines branching out from them (for any type of relation)

Watch This Space! We are currently in the process of organising the tree itself, but please be sure to keep checking The Official Emoticon Family Tree Project Information Journal where you can also find all the links to important places like the entry collection folders and the tree itself.

"The entry should be 20px by 20px or less (featuring emotes of the 'standard' 16px by 16px size)"
Emotes are generally 15x15 pixels, not 16x16 pixels.
Just saying. :B

Yes I know, someone's already commented saying that, I did ask =converse-kidd what the standard was before writing it and that's what she told me, sorry I can't edit news articles.

Can't you edit news articles now? :slow:
ClefairyKid's avatar
Uh... I don't see a button for it?

I feel like a poop for missing this in my inbox. I will try to participate! :la:

:giggle: We are only just starting really, the tree itself isn't ready so it's just some time to consider who you want to be related too :aww:

Okay. ^^; I just have gotten behind on stuff. ;P

So emotes can only appear once in the tree - but they also appear in a treehouse with their emote team. Does that mean they'll appear twice?

Also, this sounds like a really good project :giggle: Can't wait to participate.
ClefairyKid's avatar
No XD When I say once, I mean once. That's why there are vines to link relationships between others :meow:

...I think I sorta get it. :slow:

Do we know who is participating? that way we know who we can ask?
ClefairyKid's avatar
You will know someone is participating if they have an entry in the either of the entry collection folders, and if you see them on the tree, you need to ask others what relations they have with other characters and if they are ok with being related (since there is a limit of 4 links). You need to keep checking at the journal for up to date lists etc :aww:

Ok, I'll make sure I will :)

Is it purely the emote that should be 20 x 20 or the canvas/file size?
ClefairyKid's avatar
The file size, that is the largest amount of canvas area that can be used (since you might have two interacting, and we don't want the entries to be to large). The emotes themselves should be the standard emote size although it might seem I was told the wrong numbers (I was told 16 but then someone else said 15, keep an eye on the journal for an up date in regards to that)
