Words to a Friend. You tell me that you are old. That life has left you behind. That you feel like damaged goods. With clumsy words I try to tell you that although it hurts you when you cry and scares you when you rage, although it's cold outside your womb, and though it bites to see your age, I know your life has left its scars but all these things make you what you are and are the reasons your friends love you. And a painting in progress is far more interesting and more beautiful than an empty canvas.
