Group Info

This group is about collecting art and ideas of civil future technology. Technology for personal use as well as household, habitation, transportation, medical care, science, research, mining, resources, power supplies and more. Well mostly anything that isn't military, weapons or war-related, or primarily meant to harm or kill people and other creatures.

Joining and Submitting

Anyone can join the group. Join requests will be automatically approved.

Submitting art:

In most gallery folders, sketches will be accepted, if there is a good description of the displayed thing. The description can be included in the image or in the image comments. The focus is on the idea, not primarily the execution of the art.

This particularly applies to the "materials" folder, where you can submit designs for future materials. These materials require a somewhat believable description of the material. It doesn't have to be hard science, but it should be something that a person can accept as a well-thought concept.

Submissions with a dominance of weapons, war machines and fight scenes will not be accepted. This groups has a focus on the peaceful side of future.

The limit should be set to 5 deviations per week, and deviations will be reviewed. If the limit doesn't work as expected, please drop me a note and I'll look into it again. Also, please be patient if it takes a while to review a submission, at times I'm visiting dA only infrequently.
Recently I was designing a spacecraft and the question came up, how to shape the underside of the craft. Originally I had planned a flat surface, to make landings easy,  but I got a suggestion, that some weapon turrets should be there too, not to leave the craft defenceless on that side. My immediate idea was to use retractable turrets, to keep the underside flat but then remembered that in some sci-fi novels ships had no landing gear, but were resting on a sort of force field of force cushion instead.

With that, the shape of the underside is pretty irrelevant, but I'd suspect that the force cushion needs a constant supply of energy, so the whenever there is a problem with that, the ship will crash and take damage, while a physical landing gear has passive safety and will keep the ship in place even at a total power failure.

Ah well, just some random thoughts and finally one more journal entry for the group ;)

Thanks! One of the rarest art seems to be imaginations of future household devices. Like the fabled Coffeenuker 3000. But some day I'll bite and try to make that by myself ;)

What is that? A microwave oven? hehe
Yeah, I enjoy some domestic sci-fi. It doesn't all need to be laser-guns and death stars.
I even wondered if my submission, Night Guards, was too belligerent for your group.
But, the guards all seem pretty chill ;]

Yes, and there were no visible weapons or signs of fighting, so it could just be a patrol.

You're welcome. It's an interesting concept, and I like the almost mysterious presentation!

Thanks again, it's interesting that some interpret it as a hostile scene
and some find it more serene. I guess it's could be either.
