Pheare by Ciuva Pheare by Ciuva
Turns out my painting benefits from me being bored. I had no clue what to do, so I just sat down at my computer, randomly putting down some colours, blended them together and played with them. In the end, there was a dark shape that looked like an eye in between there, a non-human eye, so I continued with that. I rather like drawing eyes nowadays, and it was fun drawing something differently. As you can see, all of the colours put down are blue, and in the same hue as well. It's not too close, not too far from the colours intended either.

It's not a human eye, but not quite an animal's eye either. So, what is it? Is it water spirits, fairies, elves... Is Pheare the name of the race, the tribe or the individual who "owns" this eye? Is the creature good? Is it evil? A night creature, or a day creature? I know all this, but I'll leave you to speculate. ;)

Because this is not a human eye, I put it in the "fantasy"-category. Just so you know.

beautiful, love the @hint@ of other facial features without there being any - it's great how it started out different too - that is similar to my artwork

storyline: brilliant - don't see many evil characters/people in your artwork so it's good to hear the story of (the) (it) (she/he) Phaere

Yeah, it became ten times better than I intended it to be. Which means, I didn't really intend for it to become good at all. I didn't really see how it was hinting at other features before I'd uploaded it, but it fits perfectly with the Pheare. Not that I really knew how they looked before this. I found that it's a brilliant way of working when I don't want to get stuck on the same old portraits all the time - it's great fun, but I want some variation...

There are evil characters, I just haven't told much about them. Queen Riandel isn't pure evil, but she is not good anymore. Arodhi is evil, evil and evil, same with his generals, there are the Pheare, there are the marsh heads, and a lot of people/races that are a mixture of good and evil. I don't really have all that many pure evil people though. But then, I don't have many purely good people either. ;)

as for hinting at other features the shadows etc make me think there's shape to the face etc.. not sure how to describe it properly

the marsh heads sound interesting, maybe i'll get to hear about them later - is the queen of the marsh related?

Nope, well, other than that they live in those marshes too. Actually the marsh heads were something I invented, or imagined, when I was very, very young. I don't think I've ever read about something similar, so that can be fun. So they will, so far, be a well-guarded secret ;)

Unless you ask very nicely.

He he... I guess it's the kind of image that sticks pretty firmly ;) Just don't make me think too much about it, or I won't be able to write seriously about them. Or - wait - that's too late, it stopped when I invented them... :D

I think this might be pheare species. And maybe a water spirit. That's why I think it is blue/ocean like! I love the colours blue is one of my favourite colour! :D You always use pitchforks don't you Catrine you little devil. Muaahhahahahaha! *cough-cough*....Goodness me!
I think this pheare fears something and evil things do not fear! So it must be good.

Pitchforks are my trademark and my love. Or maybe not. But somehow I overuse them (not literally, luckily).

Great taste in favourite colour, it's mine as well. And you're absolutely right, it's a pheare, but that's where it ends, unfortunately. The pheare are not good, they dabble in evil magic, and they live under the earth. But they can transform a lot, which is what makes them so dangerous. I think this one is close to water or sky of some sort. When I say transform, I mean to change colour and so on after the surroundings, but they can't change their form very much. They live in the deserted, dead moors in the north, always on the lookout for prey. They don't really take prey for the eating, as very few passes by, but they do it for fun. Nice creatures, aren't they? It's not supposed to be logical in the way it looks, because their largest strength is to fool people, to make them believe what is not. And now I got carried away again... :D

And now I've spoiled for everyone who didn't want to know.

He he ;) Won't deny it.

But then, they aren't all that important to the book so it's not a big spoiler. But who knows for future stories... ;)

Thanks a lot. I really enjoyed doing this, I love the blues myself. It's really amazing how some pictures just grow on themselves, I had no idea behind this picture at all. But I must say I'm rather satisfied with it myself ;)

randomness is often some of the coolest things. you don't stress or force anything, and it's a lot more alive sometimes

Yeah, and some things seem to come easier then. And when you can do it thoroughly randomly, it's so relaxing. That's when the interesting pictures comes. Not saying that this is one of those (except for me... )

i like working on a piece, knowing what i want out of it, and then suddenly being inspired to add some details, or taking it in a whole new direction.
