Archer by CintiaGonzalvez Archer by CintiaGonzalvez
So long no posting!

I think this is my most detailed painting at this moment.
I must try with new colors, so I realized that for some reason I use too much red/grey combinations. And realized that almost all my girls are red haired too
It could seem ironical to say that my favourite color is green but that's the truth XD

Well, no ref used untill my head almost explodes because of her right hand wich I've changed at least 3 times.
And finally I must apologize to all those who know about archery, since I really don't know how to use one of those and I've maybe invented a bit her pose :P

The pose is natural is she is running from someone and doesn't have time to nock to arrow correctly. Though the arrow might miss it's mark if she isn't well trained in archery, but that goes without saying even if you nock the arrow while standing still.

Love it!!! I love that you have drawn the bow in a more modern way. Any chance of seeing that bow on it's own in full detail???

Nice picture.

I practice archery and have made bows before and the only thing wrong is that the arrow is sitting on the wrong side of the bow. If your right handed the arrow slides past the left side of the bow and if left handed (as in this pic) the arrow would slide past the right side of the bow.

She wouldnt be able to aim correctly the way she has it now. But otherwise nice pic =]

...and she's pulling back the whole string with her hand, and the pose is just posing. Not efficient to fire like that.

This is an awesome piece right here, I think the bow and everything looks great.

Its great work and I agree with the others. She should only have two fingers pulling back the string. I can see the effort you placed in making this. Keep it up.

thanks :) yeah, now I wouldn't draw such a specific pose without appropiated resources. But this is one of my first paintings and what is done is done >_<

It's always interesting when I read artists apologizing to archers because they (the artists) don't know about archery.
Searching the web for references and pics is easy.

Kyudo, traditional Japanese archery, using long bows, is the samurai style without or with the horse. The bows are tall.

As a female archer here’s what I see technically in the photo:
The draw hand should come back to the cheekbone or a bit farther back (position is based on type of bow).
The subject is left handed. Either hand makes a difference what side the arrow is shot from. The arrow needs to switch sides in this case. Not all bows have arrow rests, in this style you can leave it on the finger and wrap the thumb or full grip the bow, point the finger and rest on the thumb.
Anything dangling will get ripped off and that includes boobs. Women may wear a protective guard over one or both. Or tight fitting clothing. In fantasy art the boobs are never small so.. Bring the left arm/hand gripping the string up.
The tip is resting on the finger and will cut, the shaft needs to be a bit longer.
Girlie hips are not allowed.

In archery stature is critical to allow the muscles to work and flow instead of struggle.

The expression tells me this is a panic shot with possibly no time for full draw. Regardless the arrow will always be on the correct side and the draw line would be heading above the chest.

Key words: archery position, left archery position, kyudo archery, female archer, Samuri archery, Hungarian archery, Mongolian archery, longbow archery

I do like the colors and the concept.

And Avatar came up with their own style.

Good luck.
