The Penanggalan or ’Hantu Penanggal’ is a variation of the vampire myth found in Southeast Asia. It is described as a maiden who can detach her head and organs from her body while hunting at night. Afterwards, she will immerse her entrails in a vat of vinegar in order to shrink them for easy entry back into her body.

Its name literally means “detach” or “remove”.

Oh, I know this one! You gotta plant pineapples under your house to stop her coming up through the floorboards! From what I've read, the best way to kill her is to find her headless body while she's out hunting and booby-trap the neckhole with broken glass. When she tries to re-enter her body, the glass will shred her organs. If you don't have broken glass handy, salt might work.

I've read somewhere that hiding a Penanggalan's body will also kill her, as the light of day will turn a penanggalan to ash if they are unable to return to their body in time.

I just find she looks more disturbing. A pale, undead pregnant woman isn't the nicest thing to see on a dark night.
That and her backstory.

That's exactly why she's one of my favourites! They just know how to make their ghosts creepy! :D

Funnily enough, I used a render of the Kuntilanak as a reference for when I commissioned Cinemamind.
