Causes of chest pain

I am delighted to finally be able to reveal my next illustrated differential diagnosis from my “Medical Mentalism” series! This is a visual representation of what medics work through in their minds as they ask questions, examine, and interpret tests. The causes of chest pain range from harmless to life-threatening, making it one of the most important symptoms that medics need to be able to interpret quickly. 

Chest pain is often considered a medical emergency until cardiac (heart-related) causes are excluded. Having a differential diagnosis in mind helps medics direct their efforts to solve cases.
