Preakness Training

LHR Proletarian did run a good third in the Kentucky Derby. He crossed the finish line behind AS Foxfire and BTs Mustard Blue, who battled each other till the end with Foxfire winning shortly over Mustard Blue.

The team of the Lucky Horse Ranch was really proud of their stallion. In the beginning they were not even sure if they could make it to the Kentucky Derby. Tari started his career quite late and he still needs to find out how to run.

They did debate a lot if they should skip the Preakness Stakes and come back for the Belmont, so Tari would have a bit more training before he would have to face the world class concurrence again. But the stallion did come out quite good after the race, sure he was a bit sore the first day after, but the next day he was already his happy self.

Proletarian was very un-stallion-like, he was calm, friendly and always seemed happy. Till now he did not really show interest in mares, but it will come when he gets older. Tari was a late bloomer not only physically, but also from his mind.  He loves it to play, led into the gate he would try do playfully nip at the mane of the horse next to him, trying to animate the other horse to play with him, if the Jockey would not stop him beforehand.

They brought him to the Pimlico racecourse quite early so he would have as much time as possible to settle down and get to know the track. The first days he was almost the only horse training there for the Preakness, but day for day more horses would come and this time not only colts would start at the Preakness but some fillies, which did run in the Oaks did come too and some fresh horses.

At one of the last trainings Minou and her Grandpa waited for Tari to walk onto the track to stretch his legs. When the stallion did walk onto the track, Foxfire did gallop around the course and Mustard Blue did already finish his training. The liver chestnut had already finished his training and was walking back to the barn, but the stallion did stop when Foxfire did come in sight. It did seem as if the all the talk from the press did get to the horses and they would build a rivalry. For a second it did seem as if the horses did lock gazes and tried to stare down the other. Proletarian did not notice anything, he just walks past it, ready to begin his training and to stretch his legs.

“ He looks good, don’t you think so?”, Minou looked at Proletarian trotting around while she asks her grandfather.

“Yes, he’s in good shape. Also you could have let his mane grow and not cut it again and instead cut the damn bangs.”, her grandfather said sighing at the sight of the horses mane and bangs.

“Well, I think he looks good like that. Tari doesn’t really stand out with his personality, so why not stand out with a great mane?”, Minou did laugh. “Here are so many horses, we have to find a way so people recognize him right away.”

“You want the people to recognize our horse, so you let him look like a punk?”, he asked while watching the stallion carefully.

“You think he looks like a punk?”, Minou had to laugh again.

“Well the only thing that misses is a bit of color and he definitely would look like a Punk.”, her grandpa answered.

“Well, his name is Proletarian so why shouldn’t he be a punk? And you mean to complete the look he just misses some color?”, Minou asks, while a idea was forming in her head.

“Yes, I thought punks to always have color in their hair.”, he said while shaking his head.

“Ok”, she answered and began walking away.

“Hey, where are you going?”, her grandpa asked.

“I am going to buy something”

“Right now?”, he did not understand.

“Yeah, we don’t have so much time anymore till the Preakness, so I will go now”, Minou said and did go to buy something.
