Lazy Punk

Minou walked along the stable rows to Proletarian’s box. When she got there she found him lying on the ground. It wasn’t a unusual view for the people of the Lucky Horse Ranch. Tari, also called Punk, was a really calm and quiet horse, especially for a young thoroughbred colt. He loved it to just relax.

Minou did know him well, she was one of the first who got to see him after their mare LHR Neela gave birth to him. She sat down next to him and began giving him a little scratch on the neck.

“You really love it when somebody gives you a good scratch, especially behind the ears, don’t you?”, Minou laughed at Tari.  He pushed his neck against her hand, like he wanted to say ‘Yeah, right there. Just keep doing.’.

“How can a racehorse be so lazy?”, Minou asked him even so she did know he wouldn’t answer her. “When you could you would lay on a meadow and eat grass all day, all week, for your whole life.I can’t understand how you can be a racehorse. When people would see you like that the odds for the Belmont Stakes will really go down. They will think, that you don’t have the heart and spirit to win, you know? I myself would say to my grandpa that he should retire you if I wouldn’t have ridden you in some trainings and got to know that you have the will to run.”, she spoke with him as if he could understand her.

“But you really have to show all the people and other horses that you have it in yourself, otherwise they won’t consider you a rival. And after your racing career you most likely won’t be considered a good stud and we would have to geld you. Well, but you are the one who can change that. You can be a really good racehorse if you would sometimes overcome your laziness. I don’t want you to never be lazy, but I would like it when you wouldn’t show to everyone how lazy you can be.”, Minou still pet him while she sat next to him and talked.

“I already tried to change your image, you know? You already were lazy as a foal, so I decided once your mane began to grow, to cut it and not in the neat way and kept your bangs long. And now your bangs are so long that we should have braided it for training and racing for the last three month. But I could convince everybody to let it open, only because you never showed that it was annoying you. That is another trade of you, you are so calm, almost never gets nervous or shows any annoying character trade other racehorses tend to have”, Minou sighed, “When you look at it like that you are a really boring horse.”

“I also colored a streak of your tail green, so people pay attention to you, now you just have to impress them by your talent and we both know you have it, right Punk?”

Minou sat beside the lying Punk for even more time and scratched him till it was time to feed the horses.
