It was the day of the race. Minou woke up late and hurried to the stable to feed the young stallion and to get Tari out for a walk before the race begins. Proletarian was already waiting for her.

It is the second time they were here at Churchill Downs at the Kentucky Derby weekend. Last year they got the filly Like Ten Lions in the Kentucky Derby, Ten did fight but the competition had outrun her. They also had a filly in the Kentucky Oaks, Last Queen had a good run all throughout her three year old season. She had not only won the Kentucky Oaks, but also the Triple Tiara. She has since then the whole team of the Lucky Horse Ranch wrapped around her long black legs.

At the beginning of this year they did not have thought they would be here this weekend. Proletarian did not start before March and he broke his maiden in his second race. But still with that he wasn’t qualified, Tari first needed to run in a qualification race. He made it through and came back healthy. The team decided they would give it a try and named him for the Kentucky Derby.

Between the qualification race and the Derby they got him back home, were Proletarian continued with his training. The young stallion was a big one and therefore they started him late, so he can grow into the long, long legs of his. At home Tari trained with his stable mate Dark Story, who runs best on turf, which was the reason why they did not named him for the Kentucky Derby.

Proletarian already knows the routine to fly and being in quarantine, he slept through the whole flight and relished the free time he got in quarantine.

Minou, her grandpa, the trainer and owner and Pierre Dupond, the Jockey, sad together the evening before, to discuss their race strategies.  It would be a field of ten horses, Cameron’s Law already scratched. This year there wasn’t any filly in the Kentucky Derby, but a lot of talented colts.

FP Shadow Fox, had won all of his first five races, the tall colt had a good two year old career. AS Foxfire, who has already shown from which lineage he is coming from.  The most experienced horse was WSA Off Key Anthem, the colt had already run in twelve races. BTs Mustard Blue and SS Young Scrappy and Hungry, both had good careers.  They should have already met MSR Wild Red Skies at the Luisiana Derby, but he got scratched. Bc WhyASkWhy  also has an impressive lineage, and which footsteps he seem to follow. Another very experienced colt was RSS Hot Shot, who also had already run twelve races. The horse with the number #11 had one of Minou’s favorite markings, the tobiano ERS Jack the Ripper.

At first when people asked Minou if she thinks they can break the Apollo course, she did not know about what they were talking. After finding out about what it was, she couldn’t understand why a horse that did not run as a two year old had not won since Apollo.

She was also kind of shocked to find out that in this field, Proletarian was not only the only horse that did not race as a two year old, he also did race way less than the others.

The team of the Lucky Horse Ranch did not expect or even dream about a repeat of last year, with the impressive Triple Tiara. They wanted to see if Proletarian was able to run against horses who will be most likely on the top for the next year or years.
