I'm still in the process of getting comfortable with digital art, so I don't know if I'm going to add a background to this or not... As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated! I really feel like the colors on this one don't go great together, but I don't really know what to change and what the new color would be, so suggestions?

Drawing without the lineart? Sounds realistic to me

I actually did use lineart if you look closely. Should I have made it more obvious?

Hello there im come from :iconprojectcomment: :happybounce:

Your drawing are really awesome! I like how you use warm soft in it. Using soft color can be a great way to engage an audience with a design project and not really hurt eyes of the viewer, so I wont get bored if you look to this draw for a looongg loongg time. Also look at her hair! sooo smooth like I want to hug her and pat her head. Everything in her are so perfecly soft shade

But I see you have a problem with the color, right? Maybe.. that is because in here all of that are a "dark color" like there is no "main point of light". Actually, the color pick that you use are okay, the problem is lack of the light, like there is no contras in it. If you want too keep this drawing just like that, you can add small light around her as a separat for her and the BG / light on the BG around her / adding the right contras on her (this is improtaint).

Again, contrast is really important when you are starting to learn how to paint. A good knowledge of contrast in drawing helps significantly because you will have learnt the value of light and dark.
If you are coming from a non drawing background, you will have to be more aware that to make a dramatic painting “contrast is king”, rather than trying to add a bright / dark colour to lift the painting…

If you transfer the same level of contrast to painting it can seem daunting and the areas of dark can look too heavy. However, it’s very important to have a range of contrast in your paintings from black to white to truly show off the colours.

So if you just started to draw something, I recommend you to tonal scale to work within. Most objects can be reduced broadly into 3 tone masses, the lights, the half tones and the shadows.
And learning the habit of reducing things to the three simple tones is a fantastic foundation to base your drawings and painting on.
At the beginning of a painting the main job is to establish an overview of the subjects 3 areas of tone without getting caught up in the detail, this is easier said than done and takes great practice.

Maybe this article will help you understand balance and contras more better: www.sophia.org/tutorials/desig…

If you find a problem about how to understand it nicely dont forget to research, google are the best place to gather information.

I hope this help you improve your drawing

Wow thanks for taking the time to write this whole comment! Also, I see what you mean about the contrast, all of the colors I used are relatively similar in brightness. Thanks for the advice, I will definitely take this into consideration next time!

Love the flowers, especially the ones on her head!
Hmm, for me the background colour seem to make the piece look "dull", due to the solid block of colour and chosen colour.

Ooh that makes sense... But if I don't use a solid color for a backgroundless piece, what should I use?

There are several touches you can place. Use a different colour is one, and it fades away at one point, maybe, to add variation to the background. Since your main point is the girl, you don't want too many details to distract the attention to the BG, maybe you can extend the leaves to make a curve and cut down the BG to a simple circle (something like this maybe?), and the circle doesn't have to be entirely behind the girl, she can exceed it, adding to the point she is the center of attention (like this- the character doesn't stay in the circle). You can also add shadows or lighter colours to the solid colour to show "transition" or pin-pointing light source.
I think the reason for the BG to look off is that the BG and hair goes too well together, and distracts the piece from the girl by how they seem almost to be so similar.

This has been done really well! I especially like the hair :D I like how soft everything looks, too! Although maybe add the slightest bit more definition in the nose? BUt only a little bit! Over all this is amazing!

I love the flowers! They're pretty and I like the soft colors. I also love how you draw the hair. I feel like her facial anatomy could see an improvement, though. The eyes seem somewhat too small for her face. I would add more highlight on her features and the leaves, but perhaps this is a personal taste.

Thanks! And yes, I was a bit confused on what details I should add and colors I should use on the leaves. Do do you have any suggestions?

If I were you, I would use an opaque soft green to accompany the flowers' soft colors, and to not overpower the red background.

The leaves kinda look like pot leaves... Was that intentional or not?

I feel it would be. Maybe replace them with some lily flowers? That could be rather pretty I think :)
