Tropic of Cancer by Chromattix Tropic of Cancer by Chromattix
A beautiful paradise where time stands almost still, or one would think when you line my previous birthday submissions up together, Yep, this is my personal gift to myself for my 21st birthday, and the fourth in total since I joined this site, and when the previous ones (listed below) are lined up, you'll see a transition from morning, daytime, sunset and now - night time. Not sure if I'll continue to stick with the "four-year day" thing in the future, but for now - I have four similar-themed pieces at each major time, if this were a better world, time would go slower and we would all live much longer, I should be one day older since then, not four years :shakefist:

Previous years, each submitted exactly a year after the previous and before the next:
2006 - priteeboy.deviantart.com/art/P…
2007 - priteeboy.deviantart.com/art/F…
2008 - priteeboy.deviantart.com/art/W…
2010 - priteeboy.deviantart.com/art/R…
2011 - priteeboy.deviantart.com/art/A…

Time to talk about the work itself: well I won't lie, some parts unfortunately had to be a bit rushed otherwise I would have missed this year and broke my pattern, a commission came up days before today and I had to put that first due to a tight deadline, so while I had a head start on this a week prior to my birthday, I was then delayed and most of it (the editing of the Vue scene and the entire space area) all had to be done in one big session, from early yesterday afternoon until midnight, so just keep that in consideration.

I tried a galaxy first-hand up the top there, but I wasn't in a galaxy mood and it was looking like shit, so I played it safe and a little bit fast and stuck with a really close nebula, done in my favourite colour of course :giggle: plus I have long thought that purple and aqua look really good together, especially when space is involved 8-) I also used nukeation's "Hyper terrain" technique to model the rock formation on the island, this is the first scene I've done that has made proper use of that method I've been waiting to do for months :faint:

Well I've rambled for long enough now, I don't expect everyone to read, it's mainly a historical documentation for myself lol :aww: enjoy!

Ok, I'm coming back to put this in its spot in the sun, and its been in my favourites for about a month now, and I have to say, this is...actually I don't have a word to describe this, I even asked my sister for help with this and told her to describe it in one word (And her being cocky she said 'digital'). This image, in all of its glory, is the best thing I have seen since I joined DeviantArt. It gives me a sense of tranquillity, I've been coming back to this image after hard times. Its absolutely beautiful. And I, being interested in astrology, love the background, the placement of each star, dust cloud and planet is perfect. And the colouring of the water is beautiful too, its such a beautiful shade of green and the placement of the lighting is juuuust right! My worlds I cannot begin to fathom how much time was put into this! At the moment, all I can really say is this is exquisite, I'm confused as to why its not in a museum? Please, do keep up the great work!

Glad to see it still interests you after a month. Since that's usually all it takes for someone to completely forget about something they faved.

I did enjoy making this one, it's hard to suppress the urge to make a million more like it but I don't want my work to become too repetitive ^^; As for why it's not in a museum - eh, it still seems like digital art has a long way to go before it will get any significant place in an actual gallery :P

Poor digital art is misunderstood Sad dummy

And I'm glad you enjoyed making is as we enjoyed seeing it, oh and quick question, as the creator, whats your favourite part of all of this? Mine either has to be the water or the background, I cant decide!

I really like the colors. Nice work as usual. Talent speaks for itself. Spring is coming but we have another week of this horrendous weather to deal with, it just can't last much longer, same with Michigan's Ban on Marriage Equality. A Judge struck it down but the idiots want it reinstated so there is a stalemate. The idiots think nothing of spending taxpayer money so that their outdated views will hold forth.

Seems like a lot of US states are taking a step backwards on that matter. If it makes you feel any better, Australia is just as behind on matter slike that too

I don't see the planet swing out of orbit or the universe imploding by allowing Marriage Equality. If is just in the minds of bigoted, arrogant, nasty people that causes these otherwise non-issue items to flare up. Who we chose to love and spend the rest of our lives with is a Human Right, Not a political one.

I really like this color combo together, really deep and moody... really cool.

May i enquire how much it would cost for permission to use one of your images as packet artwork for a product?  please contact me if you'd prefer that info private.

Hmm, it depends on what the product is, and what it will be used for etc. Some things are off limits, while others may have varying price ranges depending on how significant a role the artwork is going to play in it etc.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back, the product is a Bloom Boost Plant Fertilizer, basically powdered Potassium, Phosphorous, Magnesium,Vitamin B1 and Dextrose Sugar to supercharge the soil organisms.
It' will be sold in foil heat sealed pouches, if i will print labels to stick onto the pouch or print directly onto the foil pouch but the artwork will be the background for the pouch, website and any print material.

It's called Dr Hugo's HugeBloom and it's the first product of a range of 5 similar powdered NPK Feeds and Boosts.

regards

Wayne

Hmm, it's quite funny actually - I've been doing a series of artworks for a fertilizer company for the past year

When it comes to sold products like that, I'd really prefer to create a new one rather than give up a current piece which I tend to keep away from commercial products (with few exceptions, books for example). But either way whether it be a commissioned piece or a new one that looks similar, something like this is going to be no less than $150 since they take days to make at the least. Though with a commissioned peice for the same price you at least get the benefits of choosing your own colours, size, features, etc and having that only for you.
