Thor classic

For the great Shelton Drum. Founder and operator of Heroes Con in Charlotte and the comic shop Heroes Aren't Hard to Find. I've gone to that show as many years as possible since my first in 91' and it's still my favorite show and a highlight of my year. Even more so now that I'm a guest. It was a real pleasure to have Shelton ask for a commission.

Prismacolor cool and warm greys Copic cools and white paint on vellum bristol board.

This is one of my favourite pieces of yours. It really plays up your strengths, which I think include characters that look and feel massive, and insane textures and volumes. The mix of warm and cool colours really help make it feel like Thor and his big red cape. The reflections on the helm and armor spots are superb. Even that sharp back outlines you use to frame the figure and background just feels 100% right. Makes everything harken back to the comic-book feel even though the overall image is more like a painting. How do you get the "foggy" feel around his feet. Do you do that first-pass by ensuring the markers are lighter colours there, or do you wash over with white after the fact? Love it!

Awesome pic. I love the pose and rubble beneath Thor's feet. I'm also a big fan of Heroes and all the folks Shelton has working for him. I'm so glad we moved back to the Charlotte area.
