Spidey's villains

I believe this was used as the cover of New Mutants #44. Beats me. I tend to get covers that are themed rather than for a specific series. This one's cool since its the first one that I was able to do with marker and watercolor. I was worried about how a colorist would handle it, but ultimately decided I dont really care as long as I'm content with my part. I still havent seen a good shot of the color version, but I'll probably hate it. I'm a douche that way. Still though, I was happy to get a Spidey cover. A rogues gallery cover to boot. Granted, none of these guys (except Spidey) look the same as I know them, but its still a nice treat for me as a Spidey fan.

Much prefer your version of Rhino to the one in the recent film.

You seem very specific in what you don't want the colourist to do, or perhaps that you have a an idea what you do want him/her to do. Is it something that you could think doing yourself, the colours?
I love the piece and the way you've done it in greyscale, the villains look imposing and Spidey is sort of, in the middle of all of it like, "yo!", fooling around ( or dodging bullets, cough, doing like superhero-ish stuff ). You render in a way which is so beautiful, you have a unique touch to it. Gorgeus work.

Thank you. Yeah I think all artists have an idea in their head of how it should look, so sharing the duties with a stranger is odd. It's mainly my own inexperience with digital coloring that has kept me from trying to do it myself. I don't have a tablet and whatnot to do it right and I'm not sure if I want to at this point. I just do the best I can't with my part and hand it off.

Is it so that you can't really ask for a specific colourist who you maybe could get to know better, and as such perhaps share ideas with how it should be done? I've never been in that situation myself, but I do bet that it is quite odd. I like colouring myself way too much to let others even try, hehe.
- Yet you still have so many absolutely wonderful oil paintings in your gallery with great use of colour and different tones! I'm quite positive that your skill would carry on to the digital medium as well, just as long as you get familiar with the tools, I think. Of course it is fully your own decision and what actually interests you. Definately giving you a nudge to try it though, as I would love to see what you come up with it - your traditional media-works shine on their own rights so wonderfully that I'm super curious to see what you'd come up with if you'd posess a tablet!

I used a REALLY old tablet a long time ago. Learned a little on my own, but never got attached to the digital process. Maybe I'm just getting old. I wouldn't mind trying one of those screens that you draw on. Kinda wild.
