Sleep Paralysis Demon by christobet Sleep Paralysis Demon by christobet
So this is kind of a personal piece. I didn't exactly make this creature up. I get sleep paralysis terribly. (For those of you who don't know, sleep paralysis is a semi rare thing where a person's brain releases a muscle paralyzing chemical while the individual is still awake. This chemical is meant to keep you from acting out your dreams, but during sleep paralysis the individual is conscious but paralyzed. This is often accompanied with hallucinations.)
I happen to hallucinate the same creature almost every night. He isn't pleasant. He's been haunting me for as far back as I can recall, so I decided that maybe if I try drawing him, I will feel more in control of him rather than victimized. Here he is. I have yet to find out if this helped my sleep paralysis or made it worse.

Drawn in pencil and coloured in photoshop.

Hey, so the gif on this reddit page,I'm guessing you are the best friend? Is this what you're talking about that haunts you every night since you can remember? My friend sees this dude all the time, waking hours, and has followed her around since she can remember. She thought it was just hallucinations but Her friend said he had sleep paralysis once and also saw that thing in the gif too. Does the name richmond ring a bell to you? If that's what you saw, you recognize the name to anything, or have any information on it, please reply to the comment. Thanks! Have a good day!

ive been doing research for my art project based on the theme of sleep paralysis and deprivation and stumbled across this, i'm sorry you experience sleep paralysis, it must be extremely horrifying and i hope somehow you can manage to control it, but i am not sorry for you creating this piece of work. It's truly horrifying and actually gives me somewhat of an idea of what you and many others go through. This painting of the demon has also helped me have a better idea of what sleep paralysis is, it's a wonderful piece.

Was linked here from reddit...

It's terrifying, interesting and all, but ...in no, way, shape or form is that a demon.
Though oddly enough it looks somewhat similar to a creature I "made up" once.

I've experienced sleep paralysis once... saw a black "sheet" with glowing red eyes above me. Dunno how I snapped out of it, but I did.

Hey hun! Don't mean to scare you but I work with these things often :) I don't have sleep paralysis anymore, but I've work with these... things often :)

I just want to let you know, if you're still getting them, to know that YOU are most definitely stronger than it. I don't know if you've watched adventure time but its similar to the Ice King's vision haha xD

If you're ever in sleep paralysis again, please remember that you do have the higher ground, and that its weakness is golden light! What I like to do is imagine them wrapped up in a golden fishing line, or rope, and just imagine it being pulled off somewhere away from you. The reason why it keeps coming back is to instill fear. Now I get scared pretttyyy easily xD So I don't even want to see them, I usually just mentally throw a giant sticky globby thing of gold (and it has to shine!) at them and cover them completely.

Often times they're in our dreams kinda just lurking, but if you're not paying attention to them, they can't really scare you lol. In dreams we usually miss the finer details.. haha. I'm actively Lucid Dreaming, so I have greater control in the dream world, and usually spend my sleeping time adventuring or "waking up" in the middle of my dream and start looking around. If you ever have any questions, let me know! But to end this here, good luck and hope all is well :D

Wow. That's some awesomely creepy shit, and I'd really really hate meeting it for the first time in sleep paralysis mode.

Luckily I never had such experiences, but I do dream very often stuff that I'd rather not dream about. Recurring dreams about people and animals having terribly damaged or missing eyes, but being otherwise normal, and seemingly unaware of their condition. It's just a disturbing thing to experience over and over again.

Nice drawing, btw. I like it.

Thank you so much for sharing, I am sorry you are going through such a plight. There are a couple other people who say they have seen this same creature over on Bloody-Disgusting. I had sleep paralysis throughout my childhood and saw different things, including animals, British (formal royal) soldiers, various royalty figures, a menacing male and shadow figures. Often, they would jump into my solar plexus when I was close to being able to move, which would release the paralytic state. I found Milleniumsentry's information about sleep paralysis and locations very interesting. Now that they mention this, I realize that mine did not take place outside of the house that I grew up in. Is this true for you or has it followed you regardless of location?

I believe there is more to "sleep paralysis" than what is contained in a doctor or psychiatrist's tool kit.

Here is the link to the Bloody-Disgusting thread about your drawing that I mentioned if you are interested:-

Oh sorry! Well sort of. I find for me that it happens mostly when I sleep in a room by myself. I'm not sure if geographical location has affected it much. I get it at home a every night because I sleep alone, but here at college where I have 3 roommates I don't get it quite as much or as severely. But a week ago or so I spent the night in someone's livingroom here on campus by myself and got it quite badly.

I suffered with sleep paralysis for several years throughout high school into adulthood.  After I become a Christian, all this left.  I later learned that a person can be demonically oppressed through evil spirits and this is one way in which it happens.  Your sleep paralysis demon IS a demon who preys on you while you sleep.  Even occult practitioners say this.  You can try ridding yourself of this demon by saying (if possible) the name "JESUS" out loud.  I often could not speak at all or even cry out - and that may be the case with you.  If you can't say it - THINK IT.  I believe that demons (some kinds of them) can understand our thoughts telepathically.  If they can't hear you, Jesus can.  Call out to him in your mind and I believe he will come.  I never knew to do that, so I just patiently waited hours until it left.  Its a horrible experience.  You can also go to a website called "unbound.com" that has a thriving deliverance ministry around the globe.  You can contact them to find a local deliverance practitioner in your area who will help you understand how this demon had the right to enter your life and how you can get rid of him.  I went through a lot of this deliverance and it changed my life.  I used to suffer with a lot more than sleep paralysis and now I am free from all their debilitating effects.  Its wonderful freedom and peace and security.  I hope you seek this out.

I suffered from this when I was younger. I did learn some things that made me think.

I personally, am very fearless... I have climbed cliffs without gear that were over 120 meters high... but the fear I experienced when this thing visited me, was completely unnatural. I've been in many fearful situations and nothing even comes close to what I experienced when it was in the room with me. I did not see a creature however.. I saw the shadow/outline of what appeared to be person shaped... darker than the darkness in the room... standing upright, accompanied by this strange heavy breathing like sound... almost as if you were hearing a loudspeaker playing slow deliberate breathing from the bottom of a swimming pool.

In the one house, it was very bad. The visits seemed to occur almost on a nightly basis. After a few months, being unable to talk to anyone about it, I kind of came to terms with it and fought through the paralysis. Strange thing is, if I played 'dead', after waking up and the paralysis had passed, it was still there in the room with me. It would only leave if I made sudden movements or gave indication I was awake. I am a very logical being, so testing myself for hallucinations and what not was very important to me.

I moved away from home a while after, and never noticed that the sleep paralysis all but disappeared in my new place. It was only when I was reading about it further, that I received a big clue. Researchers into the phenomenon noticed it affects people by geographical area. Meaning, if you leave the area, chances are, your sleep paralysis will taper off. When I read this, it boggled my mind. I had never experienced sleep paralysis at someone elses house!

After moving, It didn't occur anymore... but an odd thing happened. I had to move, and moved back to the same city where the episodes first occurred. Wouldn't you know... about a week after moving, I woke up to the same weird, in and out breathing sound.  I had almost forgotten about it all. I calmed myself down and peered over my shoulder and the shadow was there, standing in the one corner of the room.

I don't know what sleep paralysis is.. but I will tell you, from experience, that it isn't what it seems.

I have yet to have a doctor explain to me how I could feel fear in a measure I've never encountered before, from a hallucination, or how I could be feeling it at the same time as rationally wondering why I am feeling it in the first place.

I wish you luck in your endeavors, and hope you figure out a bit more of the puzzle for all of us. I think documenting it is a huge part of that, and I thank you for it.

It seems like these things prey on your insecurities and doubts. Find it in yourself that these things have no power over you other than making you think that they *can* fuck with you. They really don't have any power over you than what you give them.

Sleep paralysis sucks. The thing that struck me about this creature you've drawn is I've seen something of the same "species" when I suffered sleep paralysis about half a year ago, it stood there by the door and then crawled under my bed.

I hope you get control of him! Maybe he's been trying to tell you you've forgotten that you were royalty in a lost realm or something and he was your pet haha.

Really? It looks the same to you? Thats insane! Did your sleep paralysis stop?
And that's a much more pleasant way to look at it for sure.

It looked scarily the same, I stopped and gaped at this for a few minutes. My sleep paralysis hasn't happened in a while, which I'm grateful for. I was on a personality altering medication for my health and it was altering my sleep patterns and the complete chemistry of my brain to regulate some unpleasant seizures (which have since gotten under control as well). So I think it had to do with crazy monster medicine that made me a monster (I was mean haha.)
I really hope it stops for you! Best of luck gaining control!
