Horse by ChristianScar Horse by ChristianScar
A big black friesian galloping in the water, just what every horse lover wants to see... well I know I do anyway.

I don't know who took the picture in the calendar but either way I don't own the photo. This drawing was for the sole purpose of fun and practice.

This is beautiful!  What tools did you use for this horse?
2b and 4b pencils.  Some places I used a blending stump.  Sorry for late reply.  Been busy learning electronic engineering.

You're quite welcome! You were 16?!?! That is incredible! I really hope I'll be as amazing as you by 16!! Best wishes!!! :iconluvluvplz:

Could you possible take a peek at my artwork? It's not that great, I turned 13 in late February (as if my age should be an excuse for the poor quality!) Oh well.
Thanks so very much! :painter:

Great job with the shading. You really captured the image and there's movement. It just flows. I also happen to love fresians! :)
shelties4girls Featured By Owner Apr 16, 2013  Student General Artist
Gorgeous drawing.
however, the friesian is a stockier breed, so making the legs look courser and thicker would improvethe realilty. Feathers extend a little odd. I think more backwards than up, and mpre of them.
Add a little expression in the eye. Just a white dot would do it, or move the pencil or whatever you were using in a circular motion. Nice neck, maybe a little more cresty, and farther up on the chest. Refine the head.

Sorry, I'm critcal.
Nice job!

The sketch is pretty much a replica of a friesian I found in one of my calendars a long time ago. That's what it looked like in the photo so that's what I sketched. Then again, I used a camera to photo the sketch since I didn't, and still don't, have a scanner. Adding expression to the eye would have been very hard, if not impossible, because the eye was so small. That's not a big piece paper it's sitting on. Also, not all friesians are fairly stocky. The breed has two variations of body types; draft and warmblood. The draft variation is the one that's stocky. The warmblood variation still has some good sized legs and feet but it's hard to tell at a distance because the body isn't as stocky as the draft variation. The purebred friesian stallion, El Cuervo is his name, that my sister owns is the warmblood variation. Until you actually get close enough to his legs to pick them up, the legs don't look any bigger than any other horse. The feathers on this horse's feet were shaped that way in the photo so I don't know what to tell you about that.

This sketch was done years ago when I was fifteen years old. I'm twenty-two now. Even my other artworks, which are much better than this one, were uploaded a long time ago. My latest upload to this gallery was of the two dragons, Kota and Kita. Kota and Kita was uploaded three years ago. I've completed many artworks but they rarely get put up on my gallery anymore. I've done oil paintings, watercolor, pastel, acrylic and even 3D artwork. This sketch that you saw may as well be a scrap. It matters very little anymore.

You have a gift! I remember faving your work a few years back... I was so impressed and I still am! As beautiful as this drawing is, it suggests to me a huge untapped potential!
ChristianScar Featured By Owner Jan 28, 2013
I'm actually a lot better since that sketch was made. I mean, I did that sketch when I was 15. I'm 22 now. This one I did when I was 17 [link]. This when I was 18 [link]. And this when I was 19 [link]. I'm very proud of "Kota and Kita" because it was purely from my imagination.

I've painted a few oil paintings recently and they look awesome. Not the best, but I just started using oils. I don't have a way of putting them on my gallery though. I don't have a scanner or a camera. That's why the pics that get posted on my gallery are few and far between. On the other hand, it's interesting to see the difference between my work several years ago and the more recent stuff.
