they hobble on
titanium legs
embrace their children with
plastic arms
shake hands with their
iron hooks
smile from behind
melted faces,
twisted and sagging
like candles in the
texas summer sun
they speak of
honor,
duty, and of
sacrifice,
holding fast to their
creed and
ideals and
training
they wake at three in the morning
several times a week,
reaching desperately to save their
phantom limbs
or leap from their beads,
seeking cover
in their night-chilled comforters in heaps on the floor
their young wives,
having mournfully placed their newlywed plans
in their hope chests,

AUTOPIA
she speeds down the
tree-lined raceway,
sure she can handle it
all by herself,
despite the fact that i must
operate the gas pedal
(her legs are too short and weak to
maintain the necessary pressure)
every thirty feet or so
the underbelly of the car
slams into the concrete
guide track, and sends us off
in the right direction,
two scrambled eggs in a
gas powered, plastic vessel.
we inch closer to the car ahead of us,
occupied by her mother and big sister.
she stomps heavily on my foot,
pinning it, and the accelerator,
to the floor.
in the nick of time i manage to
pry my foot away,
bringing the vehicle to a califo
MATRIARCH
a cat howls
with all the lamentation
of a new widow.
unseen, it sits sobbing woefully
in the bushes
beside the drive-thru window.
weeks earlier
i witnessed a
proud mother cautiously
guiding her young
across the parking lot.
it hadn't dawned on me then that
those kittens would need food,
shelter and abundant love.
then, suddenly, i was accosted by
the hopeless loss of a
mother who
out-lived her children,
now mad with grief,
wailing into the night.

you know, i've wondered how i was going to get my stuff made into prints. it's pretty awesome that deviantart has that option, especially for the cost.
i don't have the cash to run many copies of each print, but this way, i can do small quantities and have them for display at shows etc...providing the quality is good. i guess i'll see when i receive the first batch.
many thanks to jenee for introducing me to the site. it's been great fun and a welcomed distraction.
well, i'm taking my leap into the deviant life. it's a maze in here finding all the bells and whistles, but i'll get there. be patient.
and if you have any helpful hints, feel free to send them over.
thanks. yeah, i'm still trying to find my voice as a photographer. found it in my writing and music, just not in my camera yet. but it's been fun trying.
