Forgotten

The Medical Transport carrier ISS Thundeflare has floated adrift in space for nearly one-thousand years. It's crew and passengers long ago abandoning the vessel in escape pods following an attack. The wreck lists inexorably towards towards a star; which is both the salvation and the doom of it's sole occupier Scarlett Kriegel. The proximity to the star has lit up the ships solar panels and begun bringing it's ancient systems back online from deep sleep. But with no escape pods left, and 1000 years of change and stellar-drift between any known reference point her awakening from induced stasis could be a short one.

How did she ended up being left behind?

It is beginning to sound interesting. Nice work by the way.

You did a great job with the base render alone, and the postwork is superb. Did you use templates for the overlay, or is it one of your own design?

Thank you! It's templates. I didn't make them myself. Only the text over the top.

Fantastic story and background, and a great image as well.

Guess what you're hinting at is some kind of a travel from one galaxy to another. Where the distance between the galaxies is much bigger than distances within the galaxies themselves between their stars.
chrisryder123's avatar
Possibly, or some point in the not so distant future where travel between stars still takes months or years.

Not sure how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go, but I'm also writing a sci-fi novel.  ntrs.nasa.gov/search.jsp?R=201…  Mine is more hard sci-fi though, so I'm getting bogged down in details.

Interesting stuff!!

I'm not sure you can travel within a galaxy without receiving some kind of light, that would fall on the solar panels. Perhaps if it needs a certain power, then you need to be close to a star, but otherwise there's always some light.
chrisryder123's avatar
Maybe, but not enough to power a starship!

Well, solar cells are batteries - they accommodate energy. But maybe the ship has a certain lower bound for amount of incoming energy per second.

Yes, so in my head; the ship was attacked and abandoned, it's systems would try to keep running as best they could- at least the cryopods. So what little energy was collected would by design be directed to the most critical systems, it would take much more energy to bring other non essential systems back online, like life support or reanimation processes.

Makes sense. Ok. I'll give it a pass. :D

:-p thank you! I know that took a lot of effort ;-)
