Trivial Pursuits by Chrisofedf Trivial Pursuits by Chrisofedf
Channeling my inner Simon Stålenhag's "Tales of the loop".

I wanted to do something that was all big and mechanical but a bit silly at the same time. Also it's coming up to winter so why not...

The vehicle is a "Scarab" Large multi tracked, transporter/explorer vehicle.

Made in Photoshop and blender.

This piece is a really neat example of using 3D models in different settings. Most of it fits well and seems to blend well into the picture, but there are a few issues. First off, the man next to the snow man is too obviously a 3D model, and not photography. Even if you kept the model, the layer would need to be shaded more and possibly in need of some adjustments. Also, the headlights, grill, and windows need to be textured slightly differently, or adjusted in PS. You might also want to add a metallic effect on the main hull. Don’t get me wrong, the whole piece is good, better than I could do, and is still humorous to look at. I am especially fond of the way the snow man looks so — well, off. I like the open sky as well. Mainly though, I feel like the snow is really well done, and brings together parts of the picture that are sort of a stretch at the moment. An easy fix to the aforementioned complaints would be to darken the sky and make it maybe a 7pm winter night kind of setting. You could then have some fog and falling snow broken up by the Scarab’s massive fog lights. This is just a suggestion however, and it might change the lighter mood a bit.

I gave ‘Vision’ a five because you did so well on making this picture its own thing, and clearly had a certain feel in mind. I haven’t really seen anything similar, so aside from the generic-ish vehicle, the whole seen is five stars for ‘Originality.’ The issues I pointed out before explain my ‘Technique’ rating, but also you might want to shading a bit more, because the shadow on the Scarab’s underside looks textured on, not rendered or painted in. Also, ambient light varies in the picture and sort of throws me off looking at it. As far as ‘Impact’ goes, I put down 3.5 because I don’t really think a piece like this needs to have an impact and the mood is very light so it doesn’t seem like you felt it needed one either. These are just my opinions though, and all in all this is a great piece.

I like the design of the vehicle.
Is that your own design? Or from a show I haven't seem (or have seen, but memory fails).

The "raw" version on a grey plain looks interesting. More of the details are available.
I definitely like the Scarab.
