Angie and I spent Saturday evening at The Getty Center. I spent about 30 minutes sketching in the gardens then finished this one at home on Sunday morning.

No probs man. When is a new episode of either paper wings or artcast coming out?

I think Tuesday. I'm not sure if it's an ArtCast or a PWP. We have both done - I'm just not sure which one is dropping first.

Happy to say it! I can't believe that only took 30 minutes. It looks wonderful! It takes me FOREVER to draw something decent in charcoal, haha. But I'm still new to it. I'm in a non-majors basic drawing class and the last class of the semester is tomorrow. I'm not great yet, but it's inspiring to see such a good drawing done in such a short amount of time :)

The nice thing about charcoal is that it is so forgiving. You can try a bunch of different variations on the composition before you commit with the deep darks.

The first sketch only took 30 minutes but I finished it at home Sunday morning. Probably about 2.5 hours total.

I wish I could get the cripsness you do out of charcoal. This is gorgeous. What type of paper were you using?

This is on the Strathmore 300 Charcoal paper. If you want more sharpness, try vellum. Most people use it for marker sketching but it's great for charcoal too.

I'll give that a shot. I usually work on normal sketch paper when I do my charcoals. Everything is coated in black when I get done lol. Thanks, Chris! :D

I just got the Strathmore 500 series today so I'm going to give that a try. Not sure if it will feel any different than the 300 but I'm interested to find out.
