Dawn over a coal swamp landscape of the Carboniferous, some 300 million years ago. This ancient forest is made up of Alethopteris serlii, an extinct kind of tree-like fern.

The ground is very light-colored;
but, that cant be snow, right?   :?

Yes, it is not snow - though many coal swamps were not so far away from glaciers and the vegetation in many locations reveals adaptations to cold climate. 

Here, it is some light-coloured soil.
