The Ice Queen taking a walk over the arctic lands.
Nice one. I like her design and it's true, I can't think of any black female ice-wielding characters.
This is just amazing, I love how you did the contrast between her coloring and the frozen environment. I used to read a lot of history, so I know there were many Black explorers in the South and North Pole. Wonderfully done.
This is true. I also learned that whaling and fishing in dangerous icy waters was one of the few jobs that would employ free blacks during colonialism and slavery. I guess when there is such a dangerous job you take whoever applies for the position.
Very true. There's even a rumor that Christopher Columbus might have had a Black navigator during one of his trips to the "New World", most certainly an African. So yeah, I love this pic and seeing how diverse Black people can be, much less humans and super heroes.
This picture is HILARIOUS to me. I once had a conversation with a black woman at Comic-Con who was bothered by the fact that almost all black superheroes have super-strength or super-toughness or some variation on that and little else. At some point she said, "Why can't they give a nigger a freeze ray, or something?" (HER words, not mine.)
My thoughts were along the same line when conceptualizing this piece. Usually when you think of black women in fantasy or fiction you think of heat, jungles, sun, and greenery. I wanted to do the opposite.
even though she an ice queen she is still smoking hot
