Zanpakuto Tsuba Designs: Pt 16

:star: The Zanpakuto Tsuba Index

The purpose of these drawings is to help swordmakers and propmakers. When it comes to making katana's or zanpakuto's most of the time the tsuba is the most unique part of the sword. The tsuba is what makes the zanpakuto a one of a kind. So I drew up these closely detailed and accurate measurements of these tsuba's. With these tsuba's they act as a reference when your going to attempt to make the sword. If you use a scene from a anime or manga to make use reference for your tsuba, it might be flawed. So I have saved you the trouble and drawn them all out clearly, with measurements so you can print and cut them out.

:bulletblue: Katen Kyokotsu: Gosh I havent done one of these in months 8D these have been very helpful so I am continuing these. This zanpakuto belongs to our lazy captain Shunsui Kyōraku. I cant believe I actually missed the single second he shows the tsuba towards the viewer. Well ive drawn it now and its pretty simple, take in mind this is his unreleased tsuba. I was thinking of making Katen Kyokotsu but there too damn large especially out of wood.

:bulletblue: Sogyo no Kotowari: Now bare with me but this is ukitake's tsuba first of all, you know the sick captain. Well anyway when he rarely uses his zanpakuto, which im gonna make soon 8D we almost never get to see a shot of his tsuba. However for a split second we see his tsuba in a massive 100 x 100 pixel size HUGE!!. So I grabbed a magnifiying glass and tried my best to recreate what his tsuba looked like. By all means dont use this if the real one is shown. But for now ukitake's tsuba is not plain it is this design. This might be the same for his released zanpakuto aswell as unreleased.

:bulletblue: Important Notes:

. ALL these guards slide into swords with a thicnkess of 5 mm and 30 mm long, there are some exceptions.
.The parrallel lines are the rims of the guards that you cut out of balsa wood and glue onto the main guard.
.Download the full version, then copy and paste it, print it off then cut it out with scissors.
.Once it the paper tsuba is cut out, then draw around it with a pencil on the wood, then cut it out to finish.

Hello, In fact the kyoraku tsuba is different.
The engravings are a couple of stylised nymphea leaves and a stylised flower on a wave design.
I made a first attempt from brass, but changed the wave design a bit to get closer to a real japanese design.

You can see an original rough design in a bleach artbook.
You ca also see the original desing is much longer and narrow, I think these proportions are ugly.
I choosed similar proportions to you, about 95 to 100 on lenght and 65 to 70 on width.
THe one on my link is the short sword tsuba, the large sword one will be a few millimeters larger.

Hey man, you know I came to you and this deviation in particular a few months back because I was making the released form of Sogyo no Kotowari and couldn't find the tsuba design anywhere but here, yeah? I finished those swords, and there are pictures up in my gallery, but [this one] gives the best view of the tsuba.

Your guide on wrapping tsukamaki was also unfathomably helpful to me, and I'm pretty sure that my swords would not look as good as they do if you hadn't posted everything you did when you did.

So yeah. You rock.

yes you came and talked to me back in january a long time ago. So anyway it seems you made a good tsuba from my design, though I created MOST of the design because no image I could find from the manga or the anime gave a clear enough picture, yet you still made it regardless cool

I can't really see what style handle wrapping you used, though if you followed my tutorials, im sure it must of been great.

Since I have given you my help, in return I ask that if you know anybody that needs swordmaking advice point them in my general direction 8P

So I totally needed a reference for Sogyo no Kotowari's tsuba, and I simply couldn't find one! Then I remembered- CHIOKY DID THOSE TSUBA DIAGRAMS OH CRAP I HOPE HE DID UKITAKE'S and you did and I was a very very happy cosplayer. You saved my sanity and I commend you.

If there is a bleach tsuba, or any manga or any anime tsuba, then I most likely would have done it

so if anybody ever raises the question send them to me please 8D

Wow, an awesome resource you have going here! A couple of suggestions regarding Katen Kyokotsu (which I am making at the moment; only discovered this page when I'd already designed the tsubas!)
1) What are shown as rectangles on this pic are in fact more B-shaped
2) The tsuba for the wakizashi (short sword) has a narrower tsuba than the katana.

References available on request :o)

in all honesty I can not to be asked to correct the original tsuba design from what I first saw a year ago lol

you may keep your refrences and thank you very much ^^
