Kaname Tosen: Suzumushi (Pure Insects) [link]

:bulletblue: Blade Length: 30 inches
:bulletblue: Handle Lengyh: 10 inches
:bulletblue: Total Length: 40 inches

This sword is handmade with no power tools (except a drill) out of strip pine wood and its full tang. This sword is a common katana very plain the only difference is the guard and colour of the handle wrap.

Where do is start with this sword I HATED MAKING IT. It was all silver paint except so many parts were unevenly painted. The guard @.@ the outside rim was SO difficult to cut becuase it was balsa wood and stick onto the guard. Cutting those seven damn small holes was a pain also. Attaching the ring proved VERY difficult. Then near the end i found out the guard was THE WRONG WAY ROUND. So i had to chisel away above the guard and put the guard right. So I had to remake the part above the guard from scratch and paint it. Then near the end the tip of the hole holding the ring broke off.

Could you tell me how you made the shape of the cross guard and how you were able to cut out that extraudinary teardrop shape? Also could you tell me how you made the rest of the sword too. I really like the design and wanted to see if I could make it my self. or at least the cross guard.

:iconchioky:
chioky Featured By Owner Nov 7, 2007  Student Artisan Crafter
You've got to cut a teardrop shape out of a piece of wood then put a balsa wood rim around the edge to raise the details. Then you have got to cut out the hole in the center of the guard to put the blade through and make 7 rectangular holes which are about 15 degrees apart
