Dead Waves: Chapter 7, Homily

Escape. Broken leg. Seeing but not seeing. Salvation found underneath headlights. Aiden slid the magazine into the SMG, pulled the slide, and a satisfying click followed. He can feel fear rattling his bones and chattering his teeth. Yet his hands are steady as stone, he feels focused, honed in, the sights of his mind's eye are set, and he's ready for whatever's ahead. He takes a breath in; the recycled air stinks, but he doesn't gag —he doesn't have the time to retch. The fear is still there, and he feels it, but you have to be afraid to be brave.  It's through the ringing of his ears that he realized he could hear that melody. That dreadful chanting came from below, from behind the steel door. It's then that it hits him that he shouldn't be able to hear it. He covered his ears, checking to see if he could muffle the singing, but he couldn't. It cuts through steel, concrete, and his hands.  Something primal hit him, a fear of something besides the dark and the dead. Something
