Rescue Dog Adoption 2013

Okay, some more rescues came in! (Do you guys like when I come up with a story and personality and stuff? Or would you rather I just sell the design and not a character?)

12 sweet dogs were dropped off a few days ago, all looking for their new forever home. They were given baths, checked out by a vet, given vaccines, aggression tested, and put on heartworm preventative. All that were not already fixed were done upon arriving. They are now ready to go home! Here's what the staff were able to find out about the pooches. As they all came in as strays, puppy mill dogs, or abusive cases, none have names and are up to the new owner.

This is a female Collie mix. She passed her aggression test easily and was found to be very sweet and very playful. She enjoyed the company of the staff's dogs and was gentle and friendly to everyone who came by to pet her. She very much enjoyed playing with an old tennis ball and chased it for an hour straight. She doesn't seem to know any commands but she did bring the ball back every time during the game of fetch. When she saw a cat she mostly just ignored it so we are pretty sure she would be fine with them. The vet estimated her to be around a year old and very healthy, though she is a bit thin and could use to gain some weight. She was picked up from the side of the road and no one claimed her so it may be possible that she is housebroke or crate trained but we don't know for sure.

2. This is a male Bulldog. He passed his aggression test and seemed pretty uninterested in what the people were doing around him. He could care less if other dogs or cats are around, even around food. The staff were unsuccessful in getting him to go for a walk and he much preferred to lay next the staff on the ground. He may have been abused in the past as he appeared to shut down in situations with new people. Once he met someone though he got very sweet and loving and even gave some slobbery kisses. He definitely isn't potty trained and will need work on that. So far the staff inform that he is very sweet but needs a lot of training and patience as he is very stubborn. The vet estimated him to be about a year or two and very healthy.

ADOPTED 3. This is a female Doberman. She has beautiful Isabella colored fur and looks to be of great breeding. She was rescued from a puppy mill were we guess she has given birth to several liters. She passed her aggression test but a few flags were raised as she was just so frightened. She didn't attempt to bite or lunge in any manor but her fear could trigger some unwanted behavior. She doesn't know anything about life. She is still hesitant to walk on grass, go through doors, and navigate steps. She is also extremely shy around new people and dogs, though she seemed fine with a cat. She has amazing potential but will take a lot of time and patience as she just doesn't know anything yet. She needs someone to show her that life can be good. The vet guessed her age around three and said she is very underweight and had fleas and ear mites, both of which she has medicine for and should be cleared up in no time!

4. This is a female Borzoi mix. She passed her aggression test and surprisingly seemed to really love the cats. She was a bit standoffish with the other dogs but snuggled with the cats and even let one sleep on top of her. She would love a home with a dog friendly cat to have as companionship. She was also sweet with the staff and everyone who came by, including young kids. She wasn't much into the toys but she did get some speed around the yard. She will need a fenced yard or a great recall since once she gets running she won't stop until she's done. She was gentle on the walks and hasn't had a single accident inside since arriving. She was found wandering the streets and no one claimed her. She is really a sweet girl who would love a family of her own to snuggle with. The vet guessed her age to be around seven or eight but she is in good shape and just needs to gain a little weight and she will have many more years to share with her new family.

5. This is a male Basset Hound. He passed his aggression test though it would be wise to watch him around cats and other small animals. He came from an unpleasant situation and has a few scars on his nose and back. He is also a very loud boy. He loves baying and running along the fence barking at the cars and passing people. He is very energetic though with enough exercise he settled down and wagged his tail for the staff. He is a little nervous when left alone and we guess he has anxiety and would be best in a home where he would not be left alone for long periods at a time. He loved going for walks and was gentle on the lead for the most part. He also enjoyed the car ride to the vet to get fixed and seems to really enjoy traveling and being in new places. The vet passed him with a clean bill of health and said him to be about a year old.

ADOPTED 6. This is a male Mix Breed. We don't know this guys breed but we are guessing Dalmatian/Great Dane. He is HUGE. He is also adorable and pictures just don't do him justice. He has very expressionate eyes and a big puppy personality. He is a gentle boy who passed his aggression test with flying colors. He is easy going and despite weighing 90 pounds already he thought he was a lap dog. He gave everyone kisses, including the cats and enjoyed playing with the other dogs, both big and small. Though he is certainly a person dog. He does need some help with manors as he tried to jump up a few times and he can be a little hard to walk as well as getting up on the counters to check for food. He is a character and everyone loves his goofy personality. Despite being born in a Puppy Mill he is sweet and adjusting beautifully, and is a quick learner. The vet fixed him and guessed his age around 10 months old. He still has some growing to do! He will be a BIG boy when fully grown and will need training and lots of room to blossom. The vet said he is very healthy, just needs more food to help him grow right.

ADOPTED 7. This is a female Papillion. She has food aggression and "little dog syndrome". She was sweet and playful for the most part, even with cats and other dogs, however once food was involved she did growl and snap a bit. She will need patience and time. It is also recommended that she not be placed with young children. She is a very cute girl with silky fur and a sweet personality away from the food bowl. She isn't old, estimated to be around two years, but she does enjoy a slower paced life. She is gentle on the walks but didn't like strangers approaching her. Once they knelt down she was fine and greeted them nicely. She is housetrained and loves her crate and will sleep there all night without complaint. She also loved sitting on the staffs lap and going under her blanket. She will make a great companion for the right person and will certainly offer so much love and protection. The vet said she is healthy, though her coat needs regular brushing to not tangle.

ADOPTED 8. This is a male Red Nose Pitbull. It was obvious he was used for dog fights as he was found behind a dumpster barely alive. He will need a lot of time and patience and work to be brought to his full potential and learn the pleasures of life. He passed his aggression test despite his past and just seems like an all around good boy. He was gentle with the children, even letting them lay on him and walk him around the yard. He was a bit nervous around other dogs but made no move to hurt them in any way. In fact he got pretty attached to number 12 and the two of them were allowed to bunk together. 12 is slowly teaching him how to play and he will sometimes romp around the yard and make goofy noises. He is just a good hearted dog who had an unfortunate start. He is a big boy and has a head like a pumpkin and big, sweet, almond shaped eyes. He doesn't know much but he is sweet and willing to learn. He needs a patient hand to show him the joys of life. The vet guessed his age to be a year or two and said he will probably always carry scars on his face, legs, and sides. He also needs more food to gain a little weight and a lot of TLC! But for the right person we are guessing he will be a wonderful lifetime partner and be incredibly loyal and sweet. While not necessary he would LOVE to be adopted with 12 and the adopter need only pay one adoption fee (one picture with both dogs on it, etc)

9. This is a female French Bulldog. She passed the aggression test and was very friendly. He enjoyed going to a nursing home when one of the staff had to run there while he was in her care. He greeted everyone with his butt wiggling and cute little snorting noises. He was also born in a puppy mill and grew up there but he is coming around nicely and is so far very sweet. He didn't like the other dogs but he didn't do anything wrong, just avoided them, same with the cats. He was great with children and enjoyed swimming in a kiddie pool. He liked playing but he loved being with people more and rolling over for belly rubs. He is great with a harness and leash but doesn't seem to be potty trained though he only had a few accidents. He doesn't know much but is a great boy who has much to offer. The vet said he is around a year old and healthy if a bit underweight. He is also a tab big for a Frenchie but we still believe he's a purebred.

ADOPTED 10. This is a male Irish Wolfhound Mix. He passed his aggression test well and is quite the goofball. He would play all day given the chance and is always up for something. He chased the tennis ball, played with a beach ball, played tug of war, and ran around the fence. He also loved wrestling with the other dogs and going to long walks. He was even up for a swim in a nearby river and had fun hiking up a small dune. It's pretty unusual for Wolfhounds to be so energetic so we believe he is mixed with a more hyper dog. He will need quite a bit of exercise and would enjoy a hiking partner. He also settled down at night and snuggled with a volunteer and even gave some kisses. He is a good dog who will fit in any active home. He is very tall and while he's gentle enough to be around kids he may accidentally knock one over and so should be watched carefully around kids. He will also need a lot of room. The vet guessed his age around three or four and said he is very healthy and quite fit.

11. This is a female Pug. She passed her aggression test but seemed as if she was pretty distracted. She also barked at dogs and people when she couldn't approach them but once she met them she didn't offer any aggressive or unwanted behavior. She got along well with other dogs her size but was intimidated by larger dogs and would do best as an only dog. She enjoyed being outside and kept around the staff in the yard and it is our guess that she would enjoy being a barn dog or in a home where she could go outside a lot. She did have a little trouble breathing when it was hot but enjoyed a chance to lay in a kiddie pool and cool off. She will need a lot of training to bring out her best side but has amazing potential to be a wonderful family or ranch dog. The vet said she's a year or two but pretty healthy, just watch the heat and be aware of her breathing after a lot of exercise.

ADOPTED 12. This is a female Mutt. She is a pretty strange size at around 30 pounds. We think she may have Samoyed or Spitz in her but we aren't sure. Whatever breed she is, she is a very great girl who passed her aggression test easily. She is very smart and picked up sit and down very quickly. She would love to do something like agility or obedience with her knew owner. She could also be a good barn dog or do flyball or Frisbee. Her potential is unlimited and she is eager and willing. She gets along great with other dogs, and is gentle when greeting new people. However she did jump up when she saw someone she knew and will need to learn not to do that. She is great with cats, left the ducks alone while on her walk to the nearby river and was great with children. She is very intelligent and has lots of energy but is not overly hyper. The staff even found her snuggling next to her Pittie friend and let a young child inpect her ears. The vet guessed her age at around a year and said with some TLC she should gain some weight and become a very healthy dog. If adopting both her and 8 the adopter need only pay once (both dogs in the same drawing etc)

So that's the group. They are all unique but special and deserving of a new home! Won't you consider adopting them?

How to adopt:

There will be two options for adopting due to a neat request on the last batch

Option 1. Draw to adopt. Draw the dog. Can be a ref sheet, your characters meeting the dog, etc. Must be full body. Option 2. Write to adopt. Write a story of at least three paragraphs about the dog. Can be about the dog, a story explaining them adopting the dog, or just a story with your characters and the dog, etc. If adopting more than one dog you must write a separate story for each dog (exception is 8 and 12, which the story can be combined to include both dogs in the one story) Let me know you're writing and then send me a link when finished. Please try not to take longer than a week as the dog may miss another opportunity to find a home.
