Now, it was cold. Dusty was used to cold, thrived in it even. The first phase of the event had gone smoothly and he had withstood the blowing winds and, at times, blinding snow. But the temperatures had been mild compared to this. 

Now, he pulled his sleeves on his coat further down his wrists as a shiver went through his body. Below him Stardust was taking one calculated step after another. He was grateful for her intuition and quiet perseverance. In fact, Stardust didn’t seem bothered by the deep snow or the winds that would pick up the fresh, sparkling snow on the top and swirl it about like wisps of magic. Occasionally, Stardust would stop and let another horse pass them, not a competitive bone in her body, before steadily moving forward again. Partially out of trust and partially out of cold necessity, Dusty did little steering. Mostly, he just murmured words of encouragement from time to time. 

Dusty was in his own little world when Stardust came to a stop. He became aware of some of the other riders saying something and he looked up to see one person pointing off into the distance. He looked up and noticed a small herd of horses in the snow. They were far enough away to not be worried about the travelers passing through. Stardust remained still, head lifted. Finally, she gave out a loud whinny which echoed through the valley they were passing. A moment later, just faintly, Dusty could hear a neigh returned.

This took forever   

No refs but I did look at many pictures of trees and mountains and fields of snow but didn’t use any one to draw off of.
